Hi All,
Thought I'd post a picture of My Ruger MKII. I've been shooting it a lot lately and got a cheap hunter holster for carrying it while rideing the mower and takeing care of varmits that I scare up. I got 2 magazines with this gun and 1 is marked Ruger and is 10 shot and the other is unmarked and is 9 shot and is designed slightly different. anybodyknow what brand this one with the chrome end is? And is there any problems with it's design? Also curious if there is low profile sights avalible for these MKII's. The sights are kind of fragile and cumbersome I feel for banging around on the mower and such. Or are they tougher then I think?

Your chrome based magazine is an M-9 version from Ruger. It is one of the older mags for the Mark 1 and the Standard model. It is a second generation magazine since it has follower slots on both sides of the mag body. I'd say it was manufactured somewhere between 1972 and 1982. The metal base is not removable. You would have to push the follower down into the body until you can slide the follower button out of one of the holes in the slot, maintain pressure and slowly release the follower until it comes out of the top of the mag body. Getting it all back in is more challenging since the spring is so long.
Those adjustable sights are more durable than you think. There isn't a lower profile version than that for your target pistol.

Thanks for the info on the magazine. Interesting that it's older then the gun? It seems to work fine in the gun. Is there any problems useing it in the MKII that I should be aware of or is it good to go? Also good to hear the sights should hold up for Me. I think I might rig up a shoulder holster for rideing the mower. It might save some banin around.

No issues with using that magazine with your Mark II. The mags are quite durable and the generation difference between Mark I and Mark II is of little consequence.

Went the other way with my 73 standard. MKI and MKII mags fit and and work very nicely.

Hi,
Something I just noticed on this MKII. There is a threaded hole in the bottom of the mag release on the bottom of the gun. I think someone probably added this hole for some kind of releases knob or something. Anybody familiar with this modification? what would they of had screwed in there? It is cumbersome to change magazines in this gun. any tips for this?

Sound like someone added a screw or knob to ease the use of the thumb activated mag release. There are replacements for this device that are very cost effective. My favorite is the Ranch Products Magazine release. It has a curved portion that fits nicely with the contour of your finger for more efficient magazine release. They sell for around $10-$12 retail at Rimfire Sports and Custom.
