MKIII Cleaning Frequency

How frequent or many rounds do you shoot before cleaning?

I clean only when the pistol starts malfunctioning. Typically I'll go 2,000 to 3,000 rounds before a deep cleaning.

Same here, if it ain't broke it don't need to be fixed yet. Wonder if the old Penguins would agree wit that or maybe they would swat you with a yard stick or blackboard pointer, or maybe an eraser between the eyes.

I have to confess to being a bit compulsive about this gun cleaning thing. I still clean every one of them after a shooting session, even the rimfires. I try not to do it; I come home from the range and put the guns away and then start worrying about not cleaning them. Within a day or two, no more, I'm at my bench with the Dewey rod, the Hoppe's # 9 and the CLP. My carry weapon gets a thorough going over right after a trip to the range, without fail. I know it's probably not necessary but somebody has to keep Hoppe's, Break Free and all those other companies that make cleaning gear in business!

Att least if you have to use it in self defense the BG can get stuffed in the body bag knowing he got wasted by a clean gun and not the dirty old one the oldman carries.

When I take my Ruger-MK2 to the range... when done...
our range has a small 'shop' with an AirCompressor.
I will Field-Strip and go "blow the crud out" of the grip & receiver.
I have Hoppe#9 Solvent&Oil with some toothpics&Qtips and
the cleanup is a snap, rather than have to pack-up, go home,
then get my pistol out and get to the "stuff"
and put it away for next time.

By keeping some oil in the grip-guts... the AirCompressor will
blow it away so clean... HOW clean is it? Clean enough to eat with?
well, not really, but cleaner and FASTER than I can with poking
and dabbing at it...

I clean mine about every other time I fire them. I don't count rounds, but my guess is around 400 rounds. My cleaning wouldn't pass my standards when I inspected arms rooms, but the barrel, receiver, bolt and bolt face get a good going over. Gives me a chance to inspect the innards. I seem to have few problems with ammo since I've started doing this.

Well, you see, my plan is, if I ever have to draw it in a threat situation, I'm going to yell "THIS GUN IS CLEAN; DON'T MAKE ME GET IT DIRTY!!"

Toy, it must be nice to find all them old non rusted vehicles. Engines and drive trains will last a long tome but Michigan Cancer will eat the body in no time.

Quite possibly I may only be nice a small % of the time. I must be nice some of the time?????

Rusty cars? Remember those. One of my project cars for the kids was an awful combination of an 84 Horizon and an 89 Omni. The Plodge Horomni ran well until No. 2 daughter lost the rear bumper in a car wash. Decided it was time to send it to the retirement home. BTW, Len, that green stuff beside the car is grass in March.

I like "This gun is clean, do you know how upset I'll be if you make me get it dirty?"

Never knew that Chrysler had that model, must have been a limited run special order type deal. Rob, you must feel prd to ahve owned such a vehicle. We got grass heretoo but it is still in its winter shade of dead grass amd mud brown.
Years ago I had a 1981 LUV truck, cab was too small for a man my size but it ran good, think it wasd shipped from Japan as deck cargo on a submarine. Rusted out so bad you got wet pants if you drove it in the rain, but you could check teh tread on the front tires without leaving the cab, fianlly sent it to proper home, but it was still running.

uh... well... uh... hmmm... actually... it's "weeds"
there is some grass-roots under there somewhere
and by mid-summer some grass will come-out
just in time for the dry-heat-of-summer and die-off...

I may not be very good at much of anything,
but will readily admit (brag?) that YardWork ain't one of 'em !!!
