DIY Clark Trigger Installation

So far I've installed a VQ sear and a Clark bushing in my Ruger MkIII 22/45. I also bought a Clark trigger, but unfortunately the pin wont fit through it. I read that the installation process requires shaving metal off the front of the trigger, and drilling out the hole for the pin.

Unfortunately my power tool collection currently consists of one (1) dremel and I think I need a drill press to do this job correctly. Can it be done?




PS- This is my first post here. None of the upgrades I did would have been possible without the pictures Bullseye posted and the input from other members. After installing the bushing and sear my trigger pull is smooth and the break is crisp. The Clark trigger is my fix for a long pre travel. Thanks for the help, everyone.

First, Welcome to Guntalk-Online.

To fit the trigger a number set of drill bits and drill press/end mill are the best way to fit the pin. Some have tried sanding the hole larger, but I do not much faith in that process. It may work if it try to fit but there is no way to keep every squared up. Small shaft with a slot to hold the paper is a common way to polish internals. If you go this way use fine sand papers (600+) so you control the removal process.

Why did you go with the Clark Trigger for your pistol? Could you achieve the same goals with a factory trigger drilled with a pretravel screw?

I went with the Clark trigger based on recommendations I had read online. Supposedly it greatly improves pre-travel, takes out any side-to-side wobble, and I really wanted to try a "match" trigger... I've never shot a fancy trigger before.

Last night I went to the range. I was impressed by the difference. So far, so good.

Drilling and tapping the factory trigger can shorten up that pretravel. Do that and you'll like it even more.
