I have suspected that the bolt was not closing fully from the start, That bent rod keeps it from seating comnpletely and also will make it open a little bit prematurely.Bullseye wrote:Looking at that picture it looks like the last part of the rod is bent to where the bolt is not fully closing on the chambered casing. A new one should fix it.

Like the old guy tells his doctor, Doc it hurts when I do that, Doc say, Well don't do that then. What does that tell you??greener wrote:Replaced the whole return spring assembly (rod, spring, firing pin and spring and guide block). The stove pipe frequency decreased but didn't entirely go away with Federal 510. No problems with fed value pack ammo. Now to look at improvements in lubrication, I guess.

May want to look at some of the syn lub's. They are generally lighter visc and provide superior wear resistant (lub) with a thinner oil film. For a very light oil I use Amsoil MP. I use it on my MKIII pivot pins and bolt. I also use the Hornady 1 shot dry lub too.
The first time I tried this stuff was on a A frame bushing that was metal to metal on a car. I sprayed it down it stopped the squeeking for about a week before I had to do it again. Before I found the the time to replace it. So this sold me on how good a lubricant it was. Been using it ever since. I use it on all my guns now.

Will take a look at the Amsoil.
I probably won't shoot much of the fed 510 from the pistol. When I bought it it fired everything without doing this. it started jamming a bit and then got really bad with the bent guide rod. I'll mess around with ammo for a while.
Doc, I just want to keep picking at where it hurts.
