Volquartsen Mark III Hammer Recall Notice

Post by Bullseye » Tue May 26, 2009 6:15 pm

Another owner over at RFC posted this message:
Volquartsen hammer recall
I recently purchased the Volquartsen accurizing kit. Just got recall notice with replacement hammer from Volquartsen. I am rather glad that I didn't have time to install it until now. They said hammers shipped after May 4, 2009 were suspect and being replaced. They include envelope to return original so I suspect not all are bad.

I have not verified this with Nic Volquartsen yet but I will shortly. In the mean time I felt it important to notify the membership of this potential hazard.

6/25/09 - I have taken this out of the announcement category as this was a short term notice and all the hammer stock has been pulled or recalled - Bullseye

I also received two target hammers in the mail today also, It is a recall of target hammers made after May 4, 2009. They came with a letter of explanation and a prepaid bag to ship the defective parts back to VQ.

I called Volquartsen this morning.

-Only Mark III hammers are affected, not Mark II.
-Hammers missed or received a light heat treat.
-All customers that have purchased the hammers have been contacted.

Nic sent me this e-mail reply today -

"We had some hammers that were shipped out after 5-4-09 that missed a heat treating step but we have contacted everyone along with our distributors who received one of these hammers and replacements have been issued. This was not a safety issue but the hammers that were not properly heat treated will not have the same life as the untreated hammers.
Best Regards,
Nic"

Hopefully this doesn't impact too many folks. At least this was discovered shortly after the product was made and corrections are already underway.
