While at Cabelas yesterday, I checked on .22 rimfire ammo. I asked the guy on the floor if he had any bulk .22
When he recovered from his laughing fit, he said "I have a few 100 round boxes of this and that, no bulk." and showed me where it was.
I picked up a couple of boxes of CCI CB shorts to try out, and spied BRICKS of Aguila subsonic. No price tag. Hmmmmm.
I asked another floor guy about the price and he said "Dang, I knew there was something I was supposed to do" and walked over to the register to look it up.
Meanwhile, me and my buddy are trying to guess. I said "I bet it'll ruin a $40 dollar bill."
He was aghast at that, and REALLY freaked when the guy calls over to me and says "$47.xx"
Needless to say, it's still on the shelf...

Ammo Prices
Has any manufacturing representative publicly stated why ammunition has suddenly disappeared from the shelves and prices gone through the roof?
I am aware there are those that will stock-pile whatever appears to be in short supply or may (dictated by future events) go in short supply, but come on, the manufacturing plants have not closed down. Why is there so little ammo all the sudden?
I spoke with a Wal-Mart warehouse foreman about the ammo situation (he is also a shooter) recently and he said the resupply trucks has 'suddenly' stopped carrying the majority of their normal resupply amounts. They are reordering the same quantities they did last year, but are not getting stock.
I have not read a single line about manufacturing shortages, yet nearly every store I have tried just laughs when I ask about .22, 9mm, .45, .223 stock on hand. It is getting ridiculous.
Where is it all going? The first person to say "It is going to support the war effort" gets a free wet noogie. The government has their own ammo manufacturing plants and has no need to horn in on the civilian pipeline. Even if the government were to take from the civilian side, they would not be interested in .22 and .45 (to the extent the market has fluctuated).
So, what is really going on?

.22 is out there but in 50 or 100 round boxes. Cheapo bulk pack is still as rare as an honest politician.
Haven't seen any 50 round boxes of .45 either, but you can get all the 20 round boxettes of Super Duper Wonder Self Defense Mega Cool stuff you want.

I'm starting to see 9mm, 45 acp, 223, and others show up more and more, but bulk .22 feds haven't been among them.
I'm keeping track of those places that have been gouging on the price of ammo, primers, brass, powder. Sooner or later, the supply is going to catch up with the demand and then I will remember these businesses and they will not get any of my money.
