Pocket Holsters

One of my carry pieces is a PPKS. I like it in the summer because it's easy to cover. A .380 is not my first choice as a self defense weapon, but it beats a sharp stick.

Anyway, while discussing various options to overcome the difficulties of summer carry, the subject of pocket holsters came up. I bought one and tried it, and while it works very well indeed in terms of staying in place and keeping the weapon from printing, the style of pants I generally wear does not lend itself to pocket carry. Further, it's REAL uncomfortable in a seated position.

So, it lived in a drawer a lot.

I have a cheapo IWB clip-on that is easy to conceal under a loose T shirt but I'm not thrilled about retention. Several times I've had to duck into a restroom to rearrange things. Not good.

Recently, I wanted to carry and it was too warm to wear enough clothing to cover the skeleton belt holster I have come to like as my main carry for the PPKS. I got to looking at that pocket holster and got an idea. I tucked the PPKS in the pocket holster and tucked the holster inside the waistband of my jeans in the appendix position. After walking around the house for a bit to see if it would stay in place, I felt pretty good about it, so I went with it.

I'm sold on it! Stays right where you put it, conceals very well, retains well and is about as comfortable as any other IWB solution I've tried.

Interesting idea. I've been carrying my S&W 442 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. With what I wear, including jeans, it works quite well for me. I'll have to give your carry a try.

I use a leather pocket holster intended for a J frame in my hip pocket but an SA Micro fits in there perfectly, Was at a shop the other day and one of the guys said something about you ca not carry gun concealed in this weather with just a T shirt unless it a little .22 or .25. I said yes it is hard too conceal but did you see this????????

I frequently carry a Ruger LCP in a leather pocket holster. It is so comfortable I sometimes forget that it is in my back pocket. I also prefer something larger than a 380 but carrying a small gun is better than no gun at all. Technology has also played a role in making smaller caliber rounds more effective.
