Not much on here about airguns, but I practice daily with an old but high quality, RWS Model 6G recoiless air pistol. I also shoot a 22/45 with a red dot sight in a winter gallery league. I would like to put a red dot on my air pistol to get the same sight picture, but have been advised not to do so because supposedly the non-recoil mechanism would quickly destroy it.....

Advice?

I have a couple OpenSight pellet rifles...
but have never put a Scope/ReDot on them.

however, I have heard the horror stories of placing a
small (rimfire) scope on a pellet rifle to have it shaken-apart
in just a few firings... I'd expect the same (or worse) on a ReDot.

There are "airgun scopes" that are mfg to handle it...
so, there may be ReDots-for-airguns...

Thanks, Toy.... found your link helpful. Several of the red dots are cheap enough to at least try on the airgun. I can still see the front sight well enough to shoot the gun at 10 meters, but I just want the same sight picture as I have in bullseye gallery......

Another old thread that I found interesting.

I put an Ultradot on my Benjamin and used it for several years without problems. Took the Ultradot off and replaced it with a 2X handgun scope and, again have used it for years without problems. The 2X scope is still on the Benjamin.

There is a difference between pump-up airguns and spring airguns. I'm told that it is the spring airguns that tend to destroy scopes not designed for them since recoil is the reverse of a firearm. I don't have any experience with spring guns, but red dots and scopes work very well on pump-up types.

Yes, the 'springers' are tough on scopes not designed for air gun use.

I have a Daisy 717 air pistol with a "Cheap" $10 red dot on it. I put it on last Oct. shot it all winter with no problems.

The 717 is a Single-stroke pneumatic.
