Long term Storage Techniques
Does anyone have a long term storage technique that they prefer? I had been doing cleanings and then storing with a light coating of spray oil, but I am going to be gone a little longer this time, and was wondering if any of you have tried dessicants or maybe even something like a spray parafin or something. Thanks in advance.

Use a long term grease like RIG it will do the job for long term storage.

I think that the cosmoline would probably cover my needs, but am trying to shy away from it because it sucks to remove after a year or so. I hope to not be gone that long, but might not have other options. I was hoping to use something that would be easy on and off, but if nothing else comes up, I may have no other choices. I had heard someone talking about a spray parafin based preservative for metals, but haven't dug any up yet. Thanks for the help guys.

JJ, I've done more than a little homework on this subject.
I know everyone has their "best" so here's mine.
First of all my guns experience fairly severe temperature ranges.
Sadly I have guns that don't get "outside" much. So long term storage can literally mean "years" not months.
I've been very satisfied with two products:
Eezox which is a liquid that goes to "parifin wax" when dry.
CorrosionX which was an aviation product gone gun.
Both are outstanding long term corrosion preventers.
Tonight I visited one of my "good ol good ones'. A 99+% Win 62. I Eezoxed it three years ago and peek at it yearly at least. It was perfect.
CorrosionX is an outstanding CLP. It's always in the range box.
If you contact [email protected] They'll send you a sample.
Eezox can be purchased at http://www.midwayusa.com/
Here's an interesting test http://www.thegunzone.com/rust.html
As you'll see break free gets high marks as well.
Beats that hassle of Cosmoline.
Hope this helps!

JJ, I know you'll be very happy with it. Some say they don't like the smell but I've never found it to be particularly offensive. They've been successful holding the line on price. Midway has it now but the price is no different than other outlets. I posted Midway's link because it's a site which you may be frequenting or ordering from anyway.
Make sure you keep it capped tightly. The stuff is bullet proof for corrosion but is billed as a CLP too.
