Poly M14S serial number

Post by ibfestus » Fri Feb 13, 2009 7:00 pm

I bought this rifle 5 or 6 years ago. I filled out the 4473 and did the background check, and took it home. Now, I want list in in my Last Will and Testament but cannot read the serial number... it is just too faint. To the best of my knowledge, the rifle has not been refinished or otherwise defaced. Any suggestions as to how to highlight or make the number readable?

Welcome to the forum.

I like to use a simple child's crayon. Just rub it horizontally over the numbers then lightly rub a clean cloth over it. The wax will stay in the depressions of the serial number and the excess will wipe off. This may help reveal the number.

welcome to the forum.

uh... I don't know your circumstances... (and don't need to know),
BUT you may want to get some alternate advice on
recording a firearm S/N in such paperwork...

"just give it to them" and keep quiet.
you are kinda-sorta giving a "Voluntary FireArm Registration"
for your beneficiary...

depending upon the circumstances... I might even refuse it...
good luck. --toy

Thanks for the help..... In my situation, I know that after I assume room temperature, there will be a huge fracas as to who gets what. When My Dad died, my brother simply went in and took all the guns before I could get back to the U.S. (I was in the Navy). I want to be sure that they both get something and I am trying to make that very clear cut.

I managed to read 4 of the 5 digits and the last one is either a 3 or a 5. :(
