I had a Remington 12A pump (gave it to my son for getting some good grades in high school) that I enjoyed shooting, although it couldn't match the accuracy of a bolt gun, or of an old Winchester 62 that my wife's cousin gave me to fix up after it had been stolen and hidden in the wet. That one was a...

The .270 will suit you fine. But in case someone else is also deciding on a similar choice..."the .308 will suit you fine!" I'm inclined to favor the .270 as an all-around hunting rifle for the sort of game we find all over the US. With proper bullet choice, it'll do what is needed on even big stuff...

And a Happy New Year to you! Incidentally...re: Lucas McCain, the Rapid Reloading Rifleman: My boys were great fans of the show, and I observed that his carbine (would have been a Winchester 92 in .38-40 or .44-40, probably) was modified with a screw in the lever that would trip the hammer each time...

gcp: The trigger pull on your rifle isn't so heavy as all that. It's not a target rifle, after all. More important than the weight of pull is the smoothness of the letoff, and how well the trigger return spring cushions the backlash after the sear lets go. Then there's the safety aspect. It's fashio...

As someone who hasn't even handled an SR9, I probably shouldn't comment here. But I have some long-standing opinions about this type of design, especially when used by occasional or inexperienced shooters. Mastering the long trigger pull of a striker fired weapon is difficult at first, and when fina...

Bullseye: Perhaps Colt's rep for service was deteriorating in the 70's. But you couldn't prove it by my experience. Sure, some knuckle-dragger in shipping sent me the wrong package. But when I called, and spoke to DeJohn, the service manager, he was polite, upset that I had had a bad experience, and...

New poster, here, doing some catching up! I've got a National Match (pre-Gold Cup) like gcp's that I bought in late 1978. Three seasons of NRA shooting later, I sent the slide in to Colt to have a blemish reblued. They lost my slide, sent me a stripped Govt. model back! After the dust settled, Al De...

bearandoldman: Hi there. First post here on a new forum for me, tho I've been around others for quite a while. I'm moved to reply to your remarks about your 'new' 10-22. Your rifle sounds like a near twin to one I had for several years. Four digit serial, walnut stock, metal butt plate and all. Mine...
