With Wolf Match ammo, it's excellent. 5 less than 1/2"", 50 yards so it's definitely a shooter. However, the Wolf is a little pricey for plinking tin cans. It's not nearly as good with anything else (AE, Blazer, Winchester Super X, CCI mini-mag), 1 to 1 1/2 or so. Probably be good enough. Like I sai...

question on an old Remington 521t
I recently acquired a Remington 521t that according to the stampings on the barrel, was made in November 1948. Has an old side mount Weaver G4 scope. Shoots pretty good, but fussy on ammunition. When cleaning the old girl up, I noticed "impressions" of the fore end on the barrel. A little research r...

I really enjoy revolvers, the seem to have a nostalgic appeal to me. Haka I love my revolvers. I think shooting a revolver double action has helped all my shooting because of the long trigger. One of the best things is you don't have to do an Easter-egg hunt for the cases. Right on the bench in fro...

The Vaquero has sights like a lot of snubnose revolvers-a groove milled in the topstrap. While you can't break them, they are not adjustable. Many folks swear by them, but these sights "disappear" with my old far-sighted eyes (I see fine-my arms are too short). If you want adjustable (and better) si...

First of all. Happy New Year to everyone. Hope it was a safe one. I understand what S&W is doing. The people who actually shoot their guns is a pretty small number. I heard that the average used gun that is sold has 15 rounds through it. I do test batches of 50 when developing new handloads, but tho...

Well, I'm done with Smith & Wesson, at least new ones. I have owned (past tense) 3 new Smiths: a 686 SSR, 1911, and M&P9. Only one I currently own is the 686, but that's after sending it back to S&W. Was lucky to stay on a 12x12" target at 10 yards. Happened with .357 and .38, target handloads as we...

Charles, I wouldn't do it. First of all, you say it shoots fine and the bore is fine. Some of the old Smith revolvers are starting to be worth a few bucks, but if you change it from what was originally shipped, the value goes down rapidly. Changing the barrel may may it look like a Combat Masterpiec...

My .38 target loads are 3.6 grains of Titegroup with 158 gr LSWC. I use a Dillon 550, and recently chronographed some rounds. They were all between 637 (only 1) and 650. Most were 645 to 650 fps. They are soft shooting and more accurate than I am. For what it's worth, my .357 target loads are 4.0 Ti...

You lucky dog! Congratulations!..... :thumbs up: Thanks, Ruger22. I now have the time to do things I want to do, and do intend to find the ideal ammo for my Savage (although, a 10/22 Target may be on the horizon). I got a part-time job as a range safety officer at my club, so will be out there more...

I've been trying out new ammo in my Savage Mark II, Ruger Mark III (5 1/2 bull barrel), and S&W Combat Masterpiece. In the Savage, the subsonic hits about 2" higher than my zero, and is not as accurate as CCI Mini-mags, but better than Blazer. Mini-mags tend to hit about 3/4 inch to the right. Blaze...

You'll love it. The 617 is a great training aid because it is the size and weight of a K/L frame. New shooters can learn on this because it's full-size with no recoil. Good friend of mine also switches to his 617 if he is having problems shooting the 686 to figure out what he's doing wrong. Normally...
