Here's the final update to my followup question: Customer 01/16/2009 01:50 PM "Actually the hole that you have is actually part of the design of the bolt and it there so as to release excess pressure if that were to ever happen." Thanks for the response. Could you please clarify your response for me...

Hmm. Were you able to send pictures with your email? In general, I could buy a "it's supposed to be there" line, but I'm not sure I could but that about the particular hole that you're showing us - just doesn't look like a nice, round, "supposed to be there" hole [anymore?]. I provided them with th...

I had to wait 16 days until my question was answered, but here's what Remington had to say. The response from Pete was somewhat confusing, but I've emailed back to get clarification. Bottom line is they're saying that hole is supposed to be there. Response (Pete) 01/16/2009 07:29 AM Thank you for vi...

This is the .22 rimfire. I'll contact Remington and see what they have to say. It's been a while since the gun was purchased.

Remington 597 .22LR - hole in bolt

Long story short, I've got a Remington 597 that was taken out to the range once, about 10 years ago, cleaned, and then boxed up until this weekend. I shot a box through it the other day with no problems and decided to take it down for cleaning. It didn't really need to be cleaned, but I wanted to re...

What are you trying to accomplish? What kind of shooting are you doing? Are you looking for fast target acquisition, target focus, or competitive bullseye? Ruger has fiber optic front sights that will fit and you can get a v-notched rear, more suitable for hunting. I think the service page of the f...

Suggestions for a cheap sight upgrade for MKIII512 Bull?

I've been batting around the idea of upgrading the sights on my MKIII 5 1/2" bull barrel for a while. I want something with more contrast than the black on black factory sights. Ideally, I don't want to spend more than $30-35 on them. I can live with just replacing the front sight, but preferably, I...

Thanks - do you know if the spring will work with a MKIII, or should I reuse the factory one?

Is this the correct extractor for the MKIII?

Is this the correct VQ extractor for the MKIII? MidwayUSA's website is a little confusing on that point.

Volquartsen Exact Edge Extractor Ruger 10/22, 10/22 Magnum, Mark 2, 22/45

Thanks :)

I've been doing some research - I'm looking into getting something as either a carry weapon or a home defense weapon - I'm still deciding. Anyway, I came across these YouTube vids which have some awfully nice things to say about the SR9. After watching them, I think I'll make it a point to try one i...

I bought an UCL to go with my MK III sight unseen based on the comments I've read here and there. I bought it, actually, before I'd even shot a single round through my MK III. I'm very glad I did. It's an excellent little product, works just fine, although I need to play around with the adjustment s...

Also, some of the bluing on the bolt will wear off over time, but the degree of loss you have makes me wonder if you are adequately oiling the bolt. That bare (unblued) half of one side of the bolt was like that from the factory. I want to make sure I'm lubing the right areas. Should I be okay if I...

Bullseye, Greener, thanks so much for your responses. It may be a few weeks before I can find the time to work on the pistol, but I feel like when I do I'll do okay. I really appreciate the help and I'll be sure to post the results here later!

Your bolt stop gouges can be cleaned up with a fine metal file. All you are doing is smoothing up the raised edges around the gouge, do not try to reshape the bolt stop or attempt to remove the gouge. That sounds like something I can do easily enough. I don't have a file, but I can pick one up - is...

I can't say for certain if the gouges on the receiver were there the first time I stripped it. I did notice the ones on the head of the bolt stop pin the first time, but I was afraid I'd done them, although there was no way to see them before I'd popped it out. The long one on the side of the pin is...
