Re: Possible to re- tap hole and make new screw?
I realize this is an old thread, but it's an interesting one IMHO. It may well be possible to re- thread the barrel hole to say 6/48, and make a new screw. I think the original is 6/40 if I recall. I haven't had a Blackhawk apart in a long while, so I could be all wet. (That has happened a time or ...

Ripsaw I would like to invite you to e-mail me privately at my own address. I don't often do that, even though my e-mail address isn't exactly classified. I enjoy exchanges with old-timers who've been around the block a few times. I can be reached at allendavis58@sbcglobal.net I'd enjoy swapping "wa...

This was an old post by me and I haven't done anything on this site for some time, so I'm curious: What was it you found "outstanding" about my post??? Just curious. I've been handloading since I was about 13-14 years old, and I'm damn-near 50 now (you do the math). I'm proud of my experience, but I...

Allen, Congrats on the deer. Thanks, but no big deal except for the extra meat this winter! That load would have been illegal here in IL. The law here requires 500 ft lbs of muzzel energy minimum from any handgun caliber you hunt with. Stupid energy laws that prevent effective loads from being used...

I understand your concerns. I haven't had a Colt copy to shoot for a very long time. Just been shooting my S&W 25-5 and my OM BH. I've never used an AA7, and most of my experiances with Blue Dot and 2400 have been in the .357 Mag, and upper pressure level loads in the .45 Colt. The loads I posted a...

Joe The loads you listed look interesting, but I will have to mull over them a bit if you don't mind. The 2400 loads do concern me. 15.4 gr. sounds awfully heavy for my gun. I know it's a different cartridge altogether, but 17.5 gr. with a 170 gr. Sierra JHC was my PRACTICE load in my Old Model Ruge...

The only thing I'd add for using a chronograph would be to suggest a few shots using factory ammunition, just to get a baseline. If your loads are in the same general area as factory stuff, you probably aren't doing anything very wrong. If yours is much faster, you might want to review your data. I...

I wish to reply to reply to both Greener and to Bullseye, but first things first: I will reply to the latter first since it is fresher and go back to Bullseye. [q] The problem with all this is that I've fired 1911's (mostly from military arms racks) since the very early 70's. No matter who makes the...

Charon You're right, a lot of the smoke I'm getting is from the bullet lubrication. However, a great deal of lead oxide gas is also released. I've seen the cromotograhy thing-a-ma-jigs that I can't recall to save my neck. But back to blindpig: If you can afford to buy TWO Kimber 1911s, why the heck ...

I printed out this entire thread for reinforcing what I've taught some kids over the summer, a couple of which have gotten good enough with the various .22 pistols (mostly Rugers in different guises) to transition to center-fire pistols. These kids who shot my Hi-Power 9mm and my Chip McCormick .45 ...

Accurate Arms #7 in the .45 Colt
I've got a pile of data on using Accurate Arms #2 and #5 in the .45 Colt, but almost nothing on #7, and I strongly believe it would be a great powder for the .45 Colt if used in moderation. Being a slower burning powder than #2 or #5, all I'm seeking is just a little bit better loading density in th...

OOOOPS! :-) Yeah, we've strayed from the topic of firearms alright. (We can always correspond offline via e-mail! I guess the momentum issue is more like the weight the object possesses at speed, and maybe the kinetic energy part is more like the energy it possess on impact.....I've imagined the the...

Al, Yep, "School of thought"....sorry, my bad. I guess it was a cross between that and "Rule of Thumb"......."Rule of Thought"....nice... I'm sorry, but I had dual majors in college: US History and English (please don't ask why -- it, too, is a long story!). What I was stating is not a "concept" an...

It was the Russell County Sheriff's Department, back late in 1979 to early in 1981. I was just a young kid straight out of college and was hired initially just to transition the department from their wheelguns to semi-autos. However, the department got rocked by a major scandal because the Sheriff ...

Don't get me wrong, I do agree that bigger is better as well. I just said that the .357 can and will work if need be. Mainly I do a lot of work with cast bullets. I haven't used a jacketed pistol bullet for hunting in the past 10 or 15 years. I swage my own jacketed bullets and still use some facto...
