OK, here's the (near) end of the story, if anyone is still interested. :) I sent the pistol back to the Ruger Prescott, AZ service center shortly after my last post. I finally received a response a couple weeks ago. Yes, it really took that long. (!) To paraphrase the response from Ruger, 'The recei...

My best guess, and it definitely a guess, is that maybe I had some weird case separation that pushed part of a spent case down the barrel, and then the following round caused an overpressure situation? Otherwise, I'm thinking it's a manufacturing defect. I am definitely puzzled as well. I'll let you...

The ring is indented, almost as if some of the rifling is missing. No, it has not always been this way. I noticed it about a year after I bought it. I guess I'm off to research Ruger warranty procedures. I've installed the VQ sear and trigger, so I guess It's a good thing I kept the originals so I c...

22/45 MkIII bore problem - anyone seen this?
Has anyone run into this? Recently when cleaning my 22/45 MkIII Hunter I noticed something strange in the bore. I usually run a brush through a couple times to loosen up the grime, and I noticed that the brush hit a 'loose' patch near the center of the barrel where there was a very noticeable drop i...

How to identify surplus .30-06 as corrosive/noncorrosive?
I have full ammo can of surplus .30-06 with the headstamp OJP 60 IV. A quick search found several sources identifying OJP as Austrian in origin. A got a single hit which was a posting in a (different) forum which identified something stamped OJP 63 as being corrosive. Hardly authoritative, but it ra...

Bullseye has already kindly provided a description and photo, so I'll skip that part. From the photo, I see that Pachmayr makes grips for the 669, so I'll look into that. Otherwise, I suppose I'll let it be what it is, and use it as such. I have a ready supply of reloads for practice, but am told I ...

S&W 669 question
I was recently gifted with a very lightly used, nearly pristine, S&W model 669. This pistol is ultimately intended for home defense (my nightstand). Initial test firing tells me what seems obvious. This pistol is designed for short range fire and/or concealed carry. I have this habit of wanting to m...

toyfj40, The stock included the studs for the sling, but not the sling. I picked up the sling, which included the clips, at a local sporting goods store for $20. The only downside I've noticed with the stock so far is the short length (it's about the same as the original wood stock, just slightly lo...

Bullseye, I looked up the ATI part number at the company site, then did a google search. This yielded an ebay seller offering the stock for MSRP+s&h. The stock arrived in a couple days in the original packaging. Assembly is very straightforward and intuitive. I first assembled the rifle without even...

OK, This is my repaired rifle, with it's new updated modern good looks. I now have a lighter weight companion to my heavy 10/22 target rifle. :) Here's the final product (so far) with the ATI stock and the new style trigger assembly from Numrich. The new trigger guard appears to be made out of nylon...

Saftey of shooting '03 Springfield
I have a sporterized '03 Springfield with a serial number in the mid 400K range (Springfield Armory). I have read varying opinions as to the safety of this rifle due to possible bad heat treatment of the receiver. I have read everything from "It's somewhat less desirable" to "hang it on the wall and...
