Popular urban legends about attorneys who will vilify and portray the defendant as a maniac who wasn't satisfied with the performance and lethality of over the counter ammo and subsequently felt the need to make their own. That being said, to the best of my knowledge this has never happened. If the ...

My Uncle, who farmed about 5 miles from us, had lost part of his thumb and the first three fingers of his right hand while attempting to clear a jammed corn picker. Made it though Germany in WWII without a scratch but get him back on the farm and stuff happens. I never saw him attempt to shoot a pis...

long range shot
It's not something I would attempt any more with open sights. My eye's just don't focus on that front sight without my shooting glasses which have a prescription to be able to focus at that distance. With any of my dot sighted Rugers, Hi Standards or Marvel conversion, I wouldn't hesitate (at least ...

Welcome
Welcome to the forum. If you've been lurking you already are familiar with the tone established. I think the rest of us would agree. Kind of reminds me of the welcome sign in my daughters town. "Welcome to Velva, Home to 1300 Friendly People" I keep thinking, (a new and novel experience) if I ever m...

My Bride, future Daughter in law and self went down to Fort Benning, GA to celebrate my sons graduation from Basic Training. 8 hours drive each way to the Minneapolis airport then the flight down & back. It's been a wonderful thing to see the Man developing from the young man that went in. I encoura...

New horse in the stable
My gunsmith finished up with the build and function test of my new wad gun Friday. Caspian frame & slide, Kart bbl, slide mounted Ultra Dot. He was also calling the indoor 50 yard match we had Saturday so he brought it along for me to inspect. Well, I says to myself, what better inspection than to s...

April
Had a slow night at the range last night, so I finally got some shooting in instead of having to watch everyone else (I'm the Range Officer). Ruger MKII, 1" Ultra Dot, Rem SV (CMP surplus). 50' indoors SF-89 TF-95-3x RF-98-4x NMC 282-7x This lot of Rem is much better than most I've had. I only had 2...

From what I've gleaned from multiple sites this is an urban legend. No one has ever been able to show one documented case that a shooter was hung out to dry for using handloads instead of factory defense loads, FOR A JUSTIFIABLE SHOOTING. Basically, the shooting is either justified or not justified....

a full Auto m1 carbine would be a riot to shoot though........ The timing is fortuitous. The Wednesday night NRA show on the outdoor channel just had a piece on the full auto version of the US 30 Carbine. One of the regular speakers (I think he's one of the NRA museum curators) said it was the most...

Coach, It's not called being a cheapskate. We refer to ourselves in the brotherhood as "Frugal"!!! Just my findings on Aquila. I've put 3 cases (15000 rds) through my pistols, which are an assortment of Rugers, Hi Standards, and a Marvel conversion. What I've experienced was 1 dud in 3 cases (very i...

Piasa, At the current time, I have 3-5 1/2" (1-stnd 5 1/2", 2-5 1/2" slab side), 1-6 1/2" standard taper, and 1-6" fixed sight. One of the slab sides was originally a 6 7/8" that I just couldn't develop a liking for, so I had it cut back to 5 1/2" and recrowned. With the exception of the 6" fixed si...

I'd have to include myself in the lucky dept. Out of the 6 I own or have owned, not one has ever given me one issue with the extractor. I don't even want to estimate how many hundreds of thousands of rounds I've put through them. I know that's not the case with every one, but I've had excellent resu...

In full agreement with Bullseye on the rapid delivery of the trigger press, regardless of wether it's slow, timed, or rapid. From what I've read & heard from better shooters, you're your steadiest from around 4 to 7 seconds and your shot should break between that time. If not (and you're shooting sl...
