Got to spend a little quality time with my new toy today. I LIKE it! Did find the double-action trigger pull a little gritty and the cylinder release is hanging up. I've never had a revolver apart before, but when I took the sideplate off, the reason for the grittyness was readily apparent. Umpteen...

.45 Colt and .45 ACP are a great combination for the Ruger NMBH. I have had my .45 ACP cylinder modified to allow the use of .45 Auto Rim ammo. Now I use .45 AR in my .45 NMBH and S&W 625. The 625 will shoot loose .45 ACP, but in recent years S&W lengthened the chambers, so the short standard firing...

My only K frame Smiths are a 17 and a couple of 617s. I do have a 686SSR and a stainless GP-100. All are capable of terrific double action triggers. The Smiths are probably capable of slightly better single action triggers, compared to the GP-100. If your 686 doesn't have as good a double action tri...

When they are grouping inconsistently like that, it may not be variations in chamber diameter that are causing the problems, but variations in chamber location. If the chamber location varies radially or in asmuth, the bullets will hit the forcing cone in different locations. This can cause interest...

Most people have accuracy issues with the 9mm cylinder. My 9mm cylinder throats are .358", same as the .357 cylinder. That plus the .357" barrel often means accuracy issues. Loading larger lead bullets may help. I have several .45 Colt NMBHs with .45 ACP cylinders. The .45 Colt had tight, inconsiste...

I have a couple of MK IIIs and a MK II that now have VQ sears and hammers. I also have a S&W 41. The 41 is a better out of the box target gun. The 41 also comes with a smoother bore that tend to shoot well from the beginning. The Ruger MK IIIs I bought new. The bores were rougher than the 41. I brok...

My Single Six was inconsistent and actually keyholing bullets. I sent it back to Ruger for a new barrel and they also put in two new cylinders. It shoots a lot better, but I again measured the chamber throats and they are .227". .22 LR bullets are from .223" to .2245", so the throats are oversized, ...

I have a Marlin 39A I got new in 1963 and a 39A Mountie, made in '69 that I found a couple of years ago. These days I prefer the Mountie, but you can't go wrong with either of them. Winchester made the 9422 which is well thought of, and Browning makes a little lever gun that is also supposed to be g...
