Solution to starting to get light firing pin hits - 22/45

Some have probably been through this before. Just recently it seemed that my practice 22/45 was getting too many non-firing Federal bulk rounds than expected. The gun was cleaner than usual, but I hadn't gone into the bolt in a long while. Took it apart tonight and the firing pin spring (below the f...

Ruger sent the replacement mainspring housing with a much spiffier looking bolt stop pin as they said they would. Received it today and will try to take it for a test run tomorrow. It looks real solid. They've been stand-up in this process and I have to thank them for it.

I paraded around the Salt Lake Gun Show today wearing a cap that had stuck to it, three 3 x 5 white cards. Two advertising the above items and the third trying to bring attention to 80 rnds of Winchester white box 40 S&W I have no use for. People stared a little. I don't think they were used to cust...

Received an e-mail from Ruger late yesterday after I sent the pics they asked for the night before. They're sending another mainspring housing assembly and including an envelope for me to return the blemished housing/bolt stop to them so they can determine why it arrived in an unusable form. I think...

Merit Aptical Attach, Champion Shooting Glasses

I bought these around 1990 and never got far in bullseye work. Both in excellent condition. Merit Delux Optical Attachment - $40 Champion - Brillen 160 'Neostyle' Shooting Glasses with 2 diopter lenses (+ .20 and + .25) - $160. The Merit's been in my shooting box all these years - used maybe 10 time...

Thanks again, Bullseye. Protecting the bolt stop with buffer padding was about all I actually knew just how to do in this simple process. My landlord has a small, well secured vice and I've got two or three miscellany files - one's 1/4" wide - not quite a needle file. I'll ask around. Ruger might co...

Thanks, Bullseye. And Perazzi - I could use (pardon the term) a good manicurist. Nice example.

Will get to work finding the file and a vice and will let y'all know

It does look doable. Thanks for the recommended details. They should make a difference. A lot better than sending this thing back to Ruger and waiting to see if they make another mistake, then having to start over. Will post when the job's about done. Bullseye - when you say roll the file, since it'...

If I can find the right file and some cold blue, I might try to do the job myself. I need to get back to shooting, not trying to find out how to download pictures. Spent much of the day yesterday fooling with my computer, which I'm no expert at. Since Ruger seemed to disinterested in what basically ...

My neighbor came through, but I'm unable to get it posted here. I've e-mailed chief moderator one of the three pics my neighbor e-mailed to me of the bolt stop dilemma and he'll see if it can be posted. I hope so. The photo clearly shows the rim I've tried to describe. My neighbor is a retired engin...

Thanks, Perazzi. No, it's not the white PIN. I've mistakenly called it the bolt stop pin . It's actually the bolt stop, itself. It's the larger (compared to any of the pins) cylinder or barrel that receives the backward movement of the bolt. So, in your picture, where the cylinder of the bolt stop c...

I talked to the most experienced repair tech at Ruger today. Peggy immediately referred me to him when she heard something about the problem. He returned the call an hour or two later. We both looked at an exploded drawing of the parts and identified where the problem likely is. But he was unfamilia...

I can't even get pictures taken with either of two cameras that give a visible image. It's hopeless now to think I'm going to be able to get pics online. I'll have to call Ruger next week and hope they'll understand what the problem is and be willing to correct it. I measured the two bolt stop pins ...

Thanks, Bullseye. I'll try to get a photo to transmit tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm not sure how to put a photo onto the site here (have Picasa, though). Might get help in my small town. The new bolt stop pin clearly has a small base flange flaring out a very short distance around its full circumferenc...

Ruger-repaired 22/45 Mainspring won't fit back into gun

I'd received the original Mainspring housing for a (Mark II) 22/45 with a new bolt stop pin installed by Ruger after the original bolt stop pin had broken last year. Didn't try to re-assemble the gun until today. The repaired mainspring housing won't fit back into the gun. Just before the small end ...
