Color me "learned"..... Now you've got me wondering if those 80grs. are listed in my older Sierra Manuals. I think the newest "hard cover" Sierra manuals I've got are the 4th Edition. Anything newer is on software. Until I can get a decent computer in my loading shop to transfer the software to, I s...

Hmmm.....no kidding.... Well, that just stinks..... I know that when they're setup for match, (1 in 8.75, or 1 in 9) you're kind of limited to the bullet weights up on the higher end of the scale, which are few and far between. 80gr. huh ?.....live & learn...never knew they got that high. Commercial...

Bullseye, To be honest, I don't know my rate of twist on the Encore barrel. It's either 1 in 12, or 1 in 14, and I'm pretty sure it's the latter. Your rate of twist, or the standard 1 in 9, will mainly stabilize the heavier stuff, say 60+grs. I remember when they went to the faster rates to stabiliz...

I tried some Varget Bullseye, and although it's a great powder overall for me, I just couldn't get it to shoot in my heavy Encore rifle barrel. Playing around with it though, I got IMR4198 to group 5 shots inside a dime at 100yds. I was shooting 55gr. VMax's with 21.2 grs. in some LC87 brass. Even a...

Yes, Al... "Equasion, not equation".....LOL I used to be real fussy over my police reports and lesson plans regarding spelling, but apparently I've slipped since retirement & aging. Getting old too fast.....my eyes aren't as quick anymore. I guess the momentum issue is more like the weight the objec...

Al, Yep, "School of thought"....sorry, my bad. I guess it was a cross between that and "Rule of Thumb"......."Rule of Thought"....nice... I'm so sorry if I'm being dense because I'm not absorbing some concept you're attempting to explain, but it really seems to me with this statement that you're con...

Geesh..... Just checked into the price on one of those Witness 10mm Hunter's and they retail up aroun $900.00. I wonder what the "real world" money is on them. I also thought about building one based on a longslide 1911. I've ordered Bar-Sto barrels in the past, and I've had great luck with them. La...

Geesh Al......sounds like one hell of a quagmire down there.... Things are far from perfect up here, but man, that's sounds deep. Our ownly issues when I was with our Sheriff's office, was with the Undersheriff, who took over when the "old man" retired. He was an okay guy prior to the whole transiti...

Bullseye, It wasn't the distance (200yds.) that bothered any of us. It was the timed fire course of 5 rnds. in 30 seconds with a bolt gun. That was the disbelief I mentioned. Most of us thought it was nearly impossible at first.....at least with any reasonable chance at accuracy. Little did we know....

Al, Don't get me wrong, I do agree that bigger is better as well. I just said that the .357 can and will work if need be. Mainly I do a lot of work with cast bullets. I haven't used a jacketed pistol bullet for hunting in the past 10 or 15 years. I swage my own jacketed bullets and still use some fa...

Al, Yeah, I guess were on the "same page of music" regarding grip preference. Even though the CZ75 was the original platform for that grip style (damn Chek's had it right), and the Bren Ten had used that style for their gun, at least you were able to fondle yours-lucky. I never had the privilege to ...

Rook, Of the couple reasons I registered here, one of them was to answer your thread. No kidding. I've pondered this same project (hence the handle) and went through all the semi auto handguns available to be utilized for hunting. Yep, there's the Desert Eagle, for sure, but being a retired Firearms...

Well, I kind of agree, the .357 Mag is kinda light for bear, but if your loading for it, you can "up" your odds somewhat if that's all you have. Heavier softpoints would work best in that situation as penetration with the .357 would be a higher requirement. Bullet weights in the 170 & 180gr. range w...
