Good, honest wear from use or a holster sure does look good on a handgun. After all, they were made to be used.

With the $1000, I would buy a Ruger MK II Target with the 6 7/8 tapered barrel. With the money left over, I would buy a VQ, sear, trigger, and extractor, a good set of grips and spend the rest on ammo.

I'm sure that Davidson's will return the MK III's to Ruger. The sad thing is none of us will ever find out what Ruger's explanation will be.
