I would also vote for the model 41. Out of the box the trigger is good enough for competition, you can get extra barrels of different lengths (with different sights), and it's the easiest .22 to clean I can think of.

It looks nice too...

I've broken these before. I think I called Ruger and they sent me a couple for free.

The trick is to catch the second case when the gun doubles. My IZH was doubling and I thought I incorrectly adjusted the trigger, but the shell landed in my gun box and didn't have a firing pin mark on it. Incidentally, Federal ammo was quite a bit more prone to doubling due to head space than anyth...

That's pretty interesting. I have a 41 from the same vintage, but it doesn't click. Is the transfer bar popping out of engagement with the sear? Possibly the over travel is set on the loose side. I adjust mine so that with 1 piece of copy paper between the trigger and over travel screw the gun will ...

If your goal is simulate shooting a 1911 with a .22, then the the Kimber might be ok, but with the aluminum frame it's quite a bit lighter than a regular 45. If you just want a decent target .22, then I'd lean towards the Ruger. You could probably get a much better trigger on the Ruger, even if you ...

The sear spring presses against the pin below the sear pivot pin in the frame. It may be on the wrong side of that pin, it should be on the muzzle side.

I've had Rugers that were sensitive to ammo length. I believe I had issues with CCI std vel, but the Federal Gold Medal worked ok. I did recently buy a new Mark II that although it functioned correctly, was cutting a big dent in the nose of the bullets (if removed from the chamber after cycling). It...

I've had one of each, and can make a comparison with my experience. I bought a KMK-512, which is very similar in balance to a M41 with the 5.5" barrel. Configuration: Gun: Ruger KMK-512 Grip: Karl Nill Modifications: Clark trigger & hammer bushing Millett rear sight (same as my 41) Modify trigger fo...

Re: MK III problem

Have you replaced the hammer? I've had problems with the hammer strut sticking in the top of the hammer, and making the bolt retraction very hard (intermittently). It was a Volquartsen hammer. I replaced the VQ strut with a Ruger one and the problem was solved. Took me a while to find this one. Stev...
