Joe, sounds like you just about solved the problem. If your dies "died" tomorrow, they've given pretty good service. greener, When I bought these dies back in the 70s there was no "inexpensive" brands like we have today. There was basically just variations of the good stuff. I got hooked on RCBS ri...

Before I bought the carbide die for my ( 2 x38 & 1 x357 ) steel die sets I loaded hundreds, maybe thousands of plated 38 and 357 cases. I had no trouble with any of my steel sizing dies. I made sure to wipe off the crud that collects on cases before lubing and sizing them. My steel dies are still us...

Geeze I feel like a dunce. I got distracted and left this thread hang. OK, after almost 4 years  here's an update. I traded off the MK II magazines and ended up with four nice reversible MK I types and one original. Two worked great right off the bat, three didn't. I finished the postal match ...

Clem, I sent the cylinder off last week sometime to be done. When it gets back I will do a retest of the accuracy and see what happens. As it is now, it would group three to four rounds in a cluster then throw two to three fliers. This happened consistently with 5 different brands and types of ammo....

My Single Six was inconsistent and actually keyholing bullets. I sent it back to Ruger for a new barrel and they also put in two new cylinders. It shoots a lot better, but I again measured the chamber throats and they are .227". .22 LR bullets are from .223" to .2245", so the throats are oversized,...

A chamber reamer can equalize the individual cylinder dimensions if applied by a competent revolver smith. I am not a wheel gun man. I focus mainly on autopistols and rifles. Timing, end shake, and forcing cone dimensions can also greatly effect revolver accuracy. My suggestion is to find a revolve...

RUGER Single-Six with inconsistent chamber dimentions
I have an Old Model Ruger Super Single-Six that has inconsistent chamber dimensions. When cleaning it I can feel that at least three of the chambers are much tighter than the others. This can't be good for accuracy. As of the last time I shot this revolver about the best I could do with it was 2.5 t...

Paging allendavis, paging allendavis,
In this long and drawn out thread { http://www.guntalk-online.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=135 } we were discussing HP38 and Win 231. Since that thread there has been a couple things happen that might help prove my position on these two powders. Last year Olin sold the rights to sell Winchester powders...

Allen, Congrats on the deer. That load would have been illegal here in IL. The law here requires 500 ft lbs of muzzel energy minimum from any handgun caliber you hunt with. Stupid energy laws that prevent effective loads from being used. When I had my Iver Johnsons Cattleman SA I used 231 and Unique...

Allen, I understand your concerns. I haven't had a Colt copy to shoot for a very long time. Just been shooting my S&W 25-5 and my OM BH. I've never used an AA7, and most of my experiances with Blue Dot and 2400 have been in the .357 Mag, and upper pressure level loads in the .45 Colt. The loads I po...

greener, I'm a bit late in this thread, but I have a suggestion. If you haven't altered the front sight yet, call S&W and ask them what ammo they regulate these guns for. It may be something as simple as ball ammo that nobody but the military shoots. But at least then you'd have an idea of what weig...

Waffen, I agree with the Power Custom Hammer and trigger set. However I'd leave the factory main spring. I don't like light hammer strikes and with the factory spring you won't have any. The Belt Mountain base pin and the oversized bolt could possibly cause you some trouble. You can tighten these gu...
