Post by Georgezilla » Tue Aug 14, 2007 5:53 pm

Anyone know how (or know of a site that explains) to strip one of these?

Thanks.

George,

I did a search for this model and this is what I came up with for you. This first one is likely the one you need. http://www.nylonrifles.com/Nylonpdf/66DIS.pdf

These may help too.

Here's some instructions I found posted on The Firing Line Forum.

Nylon 66,
Take-down: Field cleaning;
Put the safety on, leave it on.
Remove magazine tube and any ammo.
Check chamber again, then pull charging handle straight out to remove.
Remove the two screws on the right side of receiver cover.
Pull straight up on receiver cover and set aside. Note position of bolt extension over barrel.
Remove ejector from left side of action area, should drop straight out, it’s the only large metal piece on the left side.
Turn rifle over, start unscrewing the barrel screw from underside of rifle. It’s the only screw on the bottom.
Do not fully remove this screw yet, turn rifle right side up and push screw up to release the barrel. The barrel will pull straight out of the stock.
Note that the bolt has moved forward to contact the barrel retention piece.
Finish removing the barrel screw and remove the barrel retention band and its alignment plate from the stock, make a note of how they come out, the plate is marked "front" if you forget.
Pull the bolt out toward the front.
Remove the recoil spring and plunger.
You are basically done now, you can remove the striker, but I don't recommend it for most people, you can reassemble the striker assembly so the safety doesn't work but everything else works normally, i.e. the gun will fire when the trigger is pulled on safe. !!!NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
Air-Hose, brush, wipe, spray, whatever the rest of the crud out, and clean the barrel normally.
Reassembly is in the reverse order.
Good luck. BE SAFE!

I don't have anything of my own on this model. I spent some time shooting one of these in the late 1960's, a very good shooter as I recall.

Hope these help.

Thanks very much! The first link you posted was the correct model, I forgot to mention in my post the one I'm taking down is a tube magazine, looks like you assumed right though.

It's one of the most accurate .22 rifles I've shot, I was very surprised when i first shot it.

My dad got it when it first came out, hasn't cleaned it since  I guess that makes it 35 years old without a single cleaning

it's not a 'contest' to see if we can "stump the Master".
BullsEye is generous to assist those of us when he can...
I benefit from his generosity quite often, I hope to help
a few myself along the way...

Thanks for saying that, I feel the same way. Let's not make it firearms Jeopardy (I'll take muzzle loaders for $1000, Bullseye!). I try to help where I can and I'm pleased to see many other's here doing the same. Together we make quite a knowledgeable group and from this sharing of experience everybody benefits.

My to be considered 'Comment'; on the "Bulleyes" comment.
Sir; thank you; thank to the others that share.
I've staid in the background reading, learning, enjoying each of your thoughts and comments.
Don't stop now :D Cannot begin; 'to take for Granted' anything.

Thanks. I'm not planning on stopping, but like a lot of people, I do get busy from time to time. When this happens, I don't get to the computer as much and my comments decline in both frequency and content length. I'm pleased that everyone here is satisfied and contribute in a positive manner to assist all those in need of answers to questions they have on firearms - That is exactly why I started this discussion forum.
