I am considering going to the range this weekend. I am also having the usual problem deciding which gun(s) to take. I only have four real possibilities, so it must be really hard for some of you that have a large inventory.

I rarely take more than two, because I hate having to come home and clean more than two. Even if I'm planning to shoot one, I take two so I'll have a "backup" to save the trip if gun number one should have a problem.

The obvious new gun / new scope / new ammo requires a range trip. If you want to just plain go shoot, how do you decide which ones go?

Right now I just walk out the back door and shoot any I want Very Happy

It's sure nice living in the country.

Now if I'm at my city home I take 2 center fire (my CC gun and backup) and my MKIII.

I'll usually will want to practice 50 yard Benchrest USBR targets with my Remington 40X and I'll shoot three cards. That requires a lot of focus watching wind flags while I call each of the 25 shot X bulls on a card. Then I have to unwind with something fun like a Henry 22RF with red dot for some quick shooting. At least once a month I will shoot a full mag from my pocket (LCR) pistol just in case I ever need to deploy it in SD. Regards

I always take my 1911 target for a practice round. Here lately I been taking one or more .22's with me. It can wind up a pot luck of how I am feeling when I go..I just loaded some .40S&W lswc's up and I have to test them on the next trip. Wink

I think a lot of people are re-learning the enjoyment of .22. The bigger bangs are getting a tad expensive of late.

I usually take a .22 pistol and one centerfire (or another .22) lately its bee my mkII target and my milspec springfield

I always tend to take more than I need to the range. I just can't seem to make up my mind when I'm packing. Typically I end up bringing a few back untouched from my range sessions. But it's always good to have spares in case of failures.

The following shall go on a range trip:
*one carry gun, every trip
*one rimfire handgun

Some of the following will generally go on a range trip:
*the new gun
*a rifle that goes with one of the handguns
*any guns I haven't cleaned since the last range trip
*anything that looks lonely in the cabinet
*anything I have old ammo to use up for or anything that needs testing with new ammo

This whole weekend ended up gray and drizzly, NOT what the forecast said Friday. It seems like the more gadgets they get, the worse job weathermen do. Anyway, no range trip after all. Other things already planned next weekend, and the one after will likely be taken with yard work. Maybe I'll get to go before September........ Sad

I'll probably follow my usual protocol and take the two that haven't been for the longest time, which will be the Mark 3 and 10/22.

I usually decide based on how much time I can spend at the range. At a minimum, I will take a .45 and a .22, sometimes I add a 9mm. The next thing I consider is if I'm taking a rifle. That really complicates the decision. Will it be semi auto, lever, or a bolt gun. Rimfire or centerfire. Usually depends on how much ammo I have for a particular rifle.

I rotate through the collection, but try to do it in some semi-organized fashion. I always carry a couple of .22 pistols, but never the same ones on consecutive trips. I rotate centerfires with .38 revolvers, SA revolvers, 9 mm, .45. I also do a bit of long .22 shooting somewhere in that mix. I suppose I'd be a much better shot if I concentrated on one or two, but where is the fun in that?
