Faster Than a Speeding Bullet

Post by toyfj40 » Sun Apr 15, 2007 2:02 am

a new .22LR "Speeding Bullet", the new 40gr Interceptor by Aguila

Aguila (Spanish for "Eagle") is the Ammo-Brand of Industrias Tecnos,
a Mexican ammo-mfg. They are imported by Centurion in SanAntonio
(their Website is not the latest news...)

They mfg a wide variety of rimfire ammo (ctr-fire,too)
Here is an older article from Guns-Magazine
(note, it is 5 "pages" long, links are at the bottom)

Did anyone yet try this new ammo? Just curious what anyone thought of it, as I found some locally and was wondering if it was worth a try.

Old R. Lee would be proud that another commie mellon bit the dust.

Comparable to the CCI Velocitor or hotter?

Looking at both brands published muzzle velocity charts, the Aquila is slightly faster.

Toy, do you know if any of the chain stores like Bass Pro Shop, Academy, etc. carry the Aquila brand? I haven't seen it around the Tulsa area.

I pretty sure that Academy -nor- assPro carry any Aguila.

I've seen Aguila at a local GunShop in FtW
and some at Cabela's... I get mine (Colibre & 40gr SubSonic)
at the GunShows... the "Interceptor" is new enough that it takes
a while to get on the 'Inventory List' of the bigger stores...
that want to handle the MX-ammo anyway...
most seem to want to stay with the BigBoys: ATK(CCI+Fed), Win, Rem, PMC ...

Your "Big Tulsa ArmsShow" (Oct 20-21) is bound to have some.

IMO: .22LR barrels+ammo are finiky(sp?) so why work to find the
std-velocity or subsonic that works nicely in each .22
and then start feeding it some new Hot-Pellet... ;)
that said... I'll get me a box or two when I see some...
just to play with, then retire them to the back shelf with the
Aguila-60gr-sloths and Rem(Soft-Pb)ThunderBolts...
If I want a fast-22... I'll stay with my .223... my little
Savage/Stevens "200" in .223 is really a nice rifle for not much $$

Much difference between the Stephens and the Savage? My son likes his savages (.308 and .22) with the adjustable trigger. I've shot the .22, not bad.

Way back in the dark ages, I wanted the hottest VW bug on the block. Same way with .22's?

it is my understanding... that the "Stevens" are the same receiver,
bolt, chamber and barrel ... just the trigger and stock and maybe
the finish are a "notch down" from the Savage...

I priced the Stevens-200 (with an after-mkt trigger) -vs-
the Savage with the AcuTrigger(tm)... cheaper with the Stevens...

It seems that many folks that want to customize their bolt-centerfire
will get the Stevens for the receiver and change out the barrel and
stock... then rework the bolt-face... I have the Choate/varmint stock
for mine and a ??trigger, but have not put them on as yet...
and the barrel-nut wrench, too. (got them on-sale at MidWay)...
still considering a barrel... but I've not shot it enough
to even seriously tweak a "load" for it... just something to Tinker(tm) with...
I keep "eyeing" the http://www.EABco.com/savagebarrels.htm

The forum on http://www.SavageShooters.com/
has a CenterFire section that I read when I have time...
(you have to register to read them...)
They talk about changing-out barrels/bolts like I would insert a
freshly loaded Mag in my MK2... ;)

back to Aquila... take a look at http://www.ColeDistributing.com/
( select Product-Info, then New-Production-Ammo )
they have Aguila. I've not bought from them, as I've found what
I wanted locally... but they are out there...
I didn't see "Interceptor" in the list.. an eMail should confirm availability.

Thanks, Toy. I'll look around here for the Aquila at some of the gun shops. The one I patronize on a regular basis doesn't carry it. I thought I might try a box just to see how it performs in my CZ 452 American.

I do believe I will stick with CCI Stingers, thank you very much!
