Is there a good guide for selection of stones for gunsmithing? India stones seem to be popular, but is there a reason to use an India stone instead of an Arkansas stone of the same grit? Or, why wouldn't I use a Carborundum stone. I have a variety including a razor hone.
I think I understand about grit, oil stones, water stones, etc. I've done enough sharpening, sanding and refinishing over the years to understand that. My father-in-law worked for Carborundum for about 40 years and I had a real advantage when it came to getting Carborundum stones and sand paper.
Is it a case of anything that grinds with the right grit or do some have properties that make them better performers.
