Parkerizing and rust question

Post by lucam » Sun May 03, 2009 12:16 am

I am picking up a new parkerized Ruger Mark on Tuesday.

My question is...

Has anyone done anything to work oil/grease into the parkerized finish?

I read somewhere that someone took apart his 1911 and covered it in petroleum jelly. He put it in the oven at 350 for half a day. It made the grease soak into the pores of the parkerized finish.

It sounds like a mess but if it makes the gun last, I'm for it.

Thoughts?

A light coat of Rem Oil will accomplish the same end.
