New purchases

Post by gcp » Thu Mar 13, 2008 7:59 am

Last Saturday I picked up a Remington Speedmaster 552 and an H&R 12 guage. Typical over the year abuse but I've taken them both down and have been working on them since. The 552 must not have been cleaned since it was made in 1979  but it's spotless now. I've always heard that these rifles were tack drivers, I guess I'll find out first hand. Have refinished both sets of stocks, the H&R is a laminate while the 552 is a beautiful dark walnut. I'll post pics when I put them back together for before and after comparison.

Here's the before

What do you guys say? I think they turned out rather nicely for $210 out the door for both....and a bit of labor of love. Package did not include the scope of course, it is a Canadian x3 sniper.

Very nice refinishing job on those stocks. You have a couple of fine looking shooting irons there gcp!

Thank you Bullseye, now lets see how they'll perform on paper.

Funny thing is the bluing on the shotgun turned out much better than I would have ever expected, almost like the finish from the factory and for cold blue that's pretty good. Steel composition is a funny thing, the finish on some turns out great while some remain pitiful no matter how much one tries.
