Just remember your guns don't mind you admiring (or even fondling other guns). I had a mini 14 years ago and have an AR now (and occasionally pine for the 14) I also carried an M-16 for 20+ years and have to say they do the job but unless you put a bunch of $$ it's only gonna do it so well

Seriously, AR fans! Sell me an AR over a Mini-14.
I own an AR-15 National Match rifle, which allows me to shoot in the "service rifle" league. I have some good comraderie
with my fellow leaguers. While the Mini-14 appears to be a "very" nice rifle, the AR can load 30 rds at once. There is also
something intriguing about operating a similar rifle to that used in military combat, which provides a connection to our military
servicemen (and women). They are awesome looking, and are an awesomely powerful/resouceful weopon. To me, and
millions of others, an AR-15is a very exciting rifle. What other weopon can a civilian own and operate that has such a
unique appearance and the fire power of an AR-15 ?
Thanks, Haka

the mini is a smaller version of the m-14/m1a1 and it has the 30round mags too.... and now you can make any long gun look like a AR (even a single shot shotgun!) :? so I think thart makes the Mini more unique?

That's good info. It does look like a neat weapon, but I'm not sure it is more unique? I like my rifle, he likes his, and that's OK ! I really don't think either rifle will put the other out of business, they both look pretty cool.

Count me as a "meh" vote, I sort GTO with the "new posts" link anyway, and have no particular interest in playing Army, or even playing Navy again.

In fact, not to make a stink about the whole concept ... this is the only active thread in the "rifle forum", it is hardly being over-run with EBR or Fudd threads.

Ruger22, I'm with you on the mini-14, they may not make great match rifles for >1/2" groups at five billion yards, but they're perfectly good varmint and plinking rifles, and I'd trust mine over an AR, it doesn't seem to mind junky ammo so long as I avoid steel-case, and for steel-case I always have the SKS, which was designed to be semi-auto from the start (as was the mini-14) making it the pinnacle of its own design legacy, not a nerfed version for the lowly civvie market.

Somewhat of a demeaning description of an AR-15, or any rifle/gun.
After all, how many "millions" of people own a so-called nerfed version of an
M16. The Mini looks cool, and like I said, that's good, as each person has their likes.
In the case of AR owners, it's millions.

gee, i dunno, but if i do my part the rifle can do it, and that makes me a sniper!

I prefer not to buy guns that were down-designed, and I buy based on performance/dollar, not looks.
The AR-15 remains a semi-auto variant of a full-auto gun, and the millions of "hobby guns" out there not meeting military spec mean that swapping parts isn't as easy as the mass-produced M16/M4 is, so you even start to lose parts commonality ... I don't see the point, maybe you do and maybe you dig your look-alike ... but they seem to be an expensive way to join the service rifle club when a CMP Garand is so inexpensive.

nerfed down service rifles or not ar15's can be good shooters better dollar for dollar than a lot of bolt guns, and fun too. plus if you like it just on looks thats off limits to criticize that's the "second type of cool" the "first type of cool" is functionallityif it doesn't work it is open season.

So far the "let's have a separate AR forum" group is well in the lead.

From my calculations, it's about 10 to 1, or so ?
