Remington 700 scope rings

Post by Georgezilla » Sat Jun 27, 2009 6:10 pm

My brother has one of these rifles in .270 Rem. He is wanting some advice on a set of decent rings scope rings (1" medium weaver).

He bought a set of wear quick-detach style, but hasn't opened them. I notice the quick-detach only have screws on one side of the rings. to me it seems that this design would be less solid than a set with a screws on both sides.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

George, I use a Badger rail(Weaver style slots) with Badger rings on my Rem 700 308, but that is an admitted overkill. The best ones that aren't crazy $$$ are the Leupolds http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?p ... ber=540248

I have the Redfield 1piece base with the double dove tail mount on my 700 BDL in Rem 7mm Mag. Leupold Scope. This uses a Dove tail front post and taper clamp on the back. I installed these almost 30 yrs ago, these have never moved. The 7mm is not the kindest to scopes. It shook the guts out of a Bushinell, that when I purchased the Leupold. I put the same mounts on my brothers Ruger and his has never moved either, same caliber. Make sure you use Loctite on the mounts.
