Scope decision-help

Post by Hakaman » Tue Apr 14, 2009 7:42 pm

I purchased a Savage series 12 VLP target rifle in 243 caliber. I am a little confused on the issue of scope specifics you would recommend for target shooting 100-200 yds. There have also been "simulated" 400 yd target competitions (not sure how it's done) at the range I belong to. With a budget of $600 (just got my tax return), what scope specifics would you suggest to me in terms of magnification, obj lens size, manufacturer, etc.
thanks, H :?

Sharp Shooters Supply (The Savage Specialists) carries a line of Vortex rifle scopes. (419) 695-3179 www.sharpshooterssupply.com. Fred Moreo, the owner is a benchrest shooter and can advise you as to which scope would be best for your needs. The Vortex line of scopes and binos are a great value. I have the 8X42 Razor binos and I would put them up against anything under $1,000.00.

thanks laportechaarlie, I didn't take your route, but it was appreciated just the same. I got a Leupold 61120, 4x14.4x40 with the reticle I wanted: "Boone and Crockett". Now I have to figure out how to sight it in.
thanks , Haka

When you get that Savage dialed in you will be amazed at how well it shoots. I currently have eight LH center fire Savages from 221 Fireball to 300WSM. Every one of them is a shooter!!

Hakaman you choose a very good rifle!!! Now for the scope, I recommend a Bushnell 3200 series in the 5 x 15 power with mil-dots. You will be set to go out to 600 yards with this setup in your new .243 caliber shooting a 100 grain bullet. I been there and done it more than once. :D :D

Bye the way, I have 3 of these rifle scopes on a .223 caliber, 6.5/06 caliber and a 25/06 caliber using them for varmint hunting at long range.
They have all worked very satisfactorly for the wife and me. Good Shooting! 8)
