Post by recoil » Fri Jul 30, 2010 7:06 am

Hi everyone,
New to the forum and just have a question on my ruger security-six.
Are there any after market grips for these? I have a square butt model.
I wanted something like the rubber houge's.

Thank's!

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have a new frame (high back frame, serial number 151 and above) or the old frame (low back frame, serial number 150) square butt Security Six?

He has the square butt.

CDNN has the best selection for either.

I had the newer square butt in stainless, years ago. Liked it much better than I think I could like Ruger's current revolvers, mostly because of the traditional grip style. The factory grips were a bit small. I had a set of Pachmayr rubber grips,

and a set of checkered Herrett's for it.

Welcome from down in the swamp. Enjoy.

You betcha I like them old Security-Sixes. Here's my two. The one with out the adjustable site was 1st year model of 1973. The other one came off the line in late 1973 or early 1974. They both still lock up tight and shoot straight. No telling how many rounds been down the pipe as they came from a Police Academy :D

I will have to check when I get home about the serial number prefix. I am thinking it is a 150 series?

Just for knowledge. Are those single action revolvers?

Nope. DA /SA type revolvers. Similar to S & W Model 27, only better.....

I like 'em better than Ruger's current line-up, mainly because of the traditional grips.

I like em too. The pictures caught my eye and there really nice looking revolvers. The hammers are the reason I was wondering. Nice guns.

They are the simplest of all revolvers to work on. That's what I liked about them. They shoot as accurate as any Colt or Smith that I ever had, and I have had a bunch over the years. They seen a lot of years of being worked hard, and then they laid in a box in a guys garage for 20yrs when I got them. They are not pretty but they shoot just fine. :)
