Glock 40S&W feed issues

Post by bgreenea3 » Mon May 17, 2010 10:20 pm

My Dept issues Glock 22c and 23c pistols (40sw compinsated, most are 10 years old ) with in the last month or so we have had feed issues on the range. several people have had problems with rounds hanging up in the mag and the slide locking back. in mine I had a few and it appeared that the nose of the bullet is hanging up on the front of the mag, and this sounds similar to what others are reporting.

I thought that it was a problem with mag in mine being dirty, I'll admit I had never cleaned it, so I took them apart and scrubbed them good. I have not been able to test it out at the range since.....I am going tomorrow.

other things to consider are the dept just switched practice ammo to 180gr american eagle and all guns with feed issues have rail mounted lights.

any ideas? I'm thinking mag (spring/follower/dirty) issues or ammo....

How many (total %) of the training failures to feed occurred with the new ammo?

All.... I was just headed down to run my calipers over them and check the length.... as far as I know we have not had any issues with the old (remanufactured stuff) ammo. or duty ammo (180gr gold dots)

Wow that was interesting....
max OAL for 40 S&W is 1.135
I measured a 50 rd box of factory American Eagle 180gr fmj
-most were 1.123-1.128 (about 31)
-some were as short as 1.121 (5 )
-some were 1.128-130 (8)
-some were 1.130 to a max of 1.133 (6)

Makes me feel a whole lot better about the consistency of my reloads

180gr gdhp were all between 1.116 and 1.119 I'd say thats better Quality control.....

Looking at the numbers and the frequency of failures with the newer training ammo, I'd have to conclude the new ammo is causing the feeding problems not anything with the magazines.

got out to the range, same ammo, CLEAN Mags, no ftf in 70 rounds, my sgt had dirty mags (not cleaned in 10+ years) g23 with tlr light many ftf's, put my CLEAN mags in his gun no ftf .........I'm thinkin' its a maintenance issue..... maybe its a combo of dirty mags and different ammo.......

Sounds like you've isolated it down and got is solved. Cleaning the mags got the training rounds running through smoothly. Your Sgt is probably liking your stock right about now - a rising star!

We replaced the mags in the affected guns and our problems went away.....untill thursday. I was shooting an action pistol shoot at the gun club and every other shot would put the gun into slidelock. inspected the gun and found one of the pins that hold in the trigger group had sheared in half. the top pin that holds the slide release spring was broken and only the right half was still in the frame  ..... oh well off to the armorer it goes to get looked over and fixed.
