Do you shoot your black rifle during the winter? I generally don't, I just stick
to pistol shooting inside.

rimfire long guns indoor and centerfire handguns indoor mostly ... plus one or two outdoor sessions on reactive targets.

still got to explodinate some water jugs once in a while ... but I'm not trudging back and forth 100 yards to hang stupid paper targets!

YES!! We have had a warm winter so far and I've been able to test from 50 grain to 77 gr in my 8 twist rifle with some nice groups in the whole range. Regards

Yes, I'm going to start doing this. Does dry firing damage any parts on the AR-15? or is it completely ok to do?

I'm fairly sure you can't go wrong with snap-caps for that, Hakaman

It occurs to me suddenly that all my "black rifles" are pistol caliber or rimfire (Henry AR7/USSR / Marlin 70PT / KelTec sub2000 g19 compatible)
The real weaponry is mostly wood and blued or parkerized steel.

Hak, I believe that the floating pin design means that you can/should dry fire all you can/want. Regards

True, mostly on the firing pin. Also, there is a plastic insert you can get for the bolt that reduces the amount of distance on the charging handle to cock the hammer. Summer will be here soon enough

Here in Texas we just say "Wait a few days and it (weather) will change". We were in the low 30's on Thursday, we are expecting 60's the first of next week.

Summers coming but we need a lot of rain between now and then to get out of this 2+ year drought where in. As it is right now I don't think any of the boat ramps are in the water. We have lakes over 12'-15' low. The lowest the lake has ever been since it was raised. Even lower than the summer of 80. We are in stage 3 watering restrictions. Which means we can only water outside 1 day every 2 weeks, and that includes watering foundations. We need water bad........

That's what I hear. It is amazing the contrast between Texas and Michigan in
terms of water. I think they said this past year has been the "wettest" year on record for Michigan.

We could get behind a pipeline to move excess water our way. Lots of jobs, and prevent an economic wipeout in the cattle/farm business. There is no relief in sight with a warm dry winter in progress. Regards

I belive the drain the great lakes with a water pipeline idea has be run up the flagpole before... and lost. it would mak finding shipwreck easier if the water was gon though....

Not soon enough for most of us. I only have outside shooting available. My VA area has seen a lot of fifties and a few sixties in the last several weeks, but many were on work days or had steady rain. I haven't been shooting since early November.

Holiday for me today, but 45 and windy, rain this evening.

And I thought the Texas saying was, "wait a few minutes?". I lived in Houston (Pasadena) for about a year, and it seemed true for there.
