Chalking your grip

Have any of you guys chalked your shooting hand while using a pistol? If so, do you feel it helped you have a more solid grip?

Thanks!

Yes, I've used rosin on my grip hand before. It works very well, especially if you are in a hot, moist, environment. Camp Perry in July is a great place to not be caught without rosin in your shooting box.

When I shot Bullseye I kept a small rosin sack in a baggie. It was part of my procedure and turned into a habit. If I didn't bounce my rosin sack in my hand before gripping it felt like something was missing. Oops......Bullseye the match, not the real "Bullseye"

You got to have a set routine to keep that positive mental attitude out on the firing line! A rosin bag is good for the grip on a sweaty day, otherwise baseball pitchers wouldn't have one on every mound during the game. Just be careful not to rub any sweat from your brow lest the rosin gets in your eyes - a very unpleasant experience! (Like having an eye full of sand)

Thanks for the replies! Am I to assume the rosin isn't harmful to firearms?

Not if you use it the way we've been talking about. You apply the rosin, just a little dusting to your gun hand and then grip the weapon. I've never had an issue with it harming the blueing on any of my guns. Like anything else, if you're creative enough you can find a way to harm your guns with it I guess

It's a lot less harmful than the sweat from your palm.

Used chalk before, but it is messy. Got a bag that bowlers use I think it is rosin but doesn't smell like rosin. A thin cheapy cotton glove helps a lot.
