SMOOTHENING A BOLT
A friend has got a brand-new Mosberg ATR .30-'06 bolt action.
However, its bolt feels very gritty.
We're thinking of using very fine steel wool the type used in smoothening wood stocks. Any other suggestion? Thanks.
A bad shot is often caused by a loose nut behind the buttplate

Depends on where the bolt is rubbing. Applying some lapping compound on the lugs, and then working the action by hand will smooth it up pretty quickly. Just be sure to remove all the lapping compound when you have the action polished up to your satisfaction.
