I'm Blaming the Wind

Post by greener » Sun Apr 03, 2011 8:19 pm

Couldn't find any Wolf MT or CCI subsonic this week end, so I tried Federal Match an Golden Eagle match in my two 10/22's (Green Mountain target barrel and Ruger standard barrel). The gusty wind made keeping good groups a bit more challenging. Neither rifle liked CCI Blazer and they didn't think much of the Golden Eagle, today either. Sighting and adjusting targets below.

The fliers must be the wind. Really.

Just for fun I fired 12 rounds from my single six, 50 yards, open sights, no adjustments. Except for the flier dead center of the X, I had a pretty good <6" group at 5 o'clock about 12" from the center. 10 of the 12 rounds were Blazer. Did almost as well with the single six and blazer as I did with the scoped rifles.

A similar 5 rounds from the Blackhawk .45 colt convinced me that I'm going to have to load differently for that range.

I'd say stick with the Federal Match, Mr Greener.

My favorite gun shop didn't have that or the Wolf MT this time.

Wolf MT or SK Std+, most shops will not stock, co it is an order thing. Champion Shooter Supply is the best as far as I can remember CCI subs come in damn close second or CCI SV, both shpot well in my guns, Ruger or other. Increase in accuracy is less than increse in cost, just use the MT for serious shooting like dandelion blossoms in the spring and Qyeen Annes lace flowers in the fall, fun shooting.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

Really fun shooting them off the berm on the 25 yard range, they have very small stems and you need to clip them off right under the flower. My record run last fall was 6 in a row and then I missed the next one.

Sounds like fun. Ain't it amazing, sometimes the most simple of things can be the most fun. OM, keep the Queen Anne's lace numbers culled so they don't get out of hand here in Michigan.
