confusion regarding barrel diameter of OM ruger .22's

Post by derree » Wed Jan 05, 2011 9:35 pm

It is my understanding that the barrel diameter of Ruger single-sixes furnished with the extra magnum cylinder is .224 to accomodate the larger diameter magnum cartridge. My question is if your revolver is an older model single-six that was not furnished with an extra mag cylinder is the barrel diameter .223 for the 22lr and if so, if you request a mag cylinder from ruger to be fitted, can you shoot the larger diameter magnum in the smaller dia 22lr barrel?

I have understood that the same bore was used on both .22LR only and the convertible models. To be on the safe and smart side, I would get the answer direct from Ruger. You can send them a question on their website:

and they usually answer in a couple days. They'll likely need your serial number. Or, you can call the Ruger plant that makes Single Sixes in Newport, NH at 1-603-865-2442. They have the usual automated answer, with an option for tech support.
* 2 Ruger Bearcat stainless, w/ EWK ejector housings & Wolff springs
* Ruger SP-101 .22LR, w/ Wolff springs
* 2 NAA Guardian .32ACP
* 3 Zastava M70 .32ACP
* S&W 15-22 Sport (.22LR AR)
* 2 Ruger SR22 .22LR pistols
