By now most of you have probably looked at the excellent reviews in the AMERICAN RIFLEMAN of rifles aimed at the AR15/M16 style market. They took a look at 50 yard groups of Ruger SR-22 (0.62"),Remington 597 VTR (0.60"), SIG 522 (0.97"), ATI GSG 522 (1.06"), Colt Tactical RF (1.06"), HK 416 (1.48"), S&W M&P15-22 (1.08"), Mossberg 702 (1.55"). Notice that the best groups in most rifles were with CCI Tactical Rimfire #0953 40gr CPRN @1175 fps ammo. I'm going to test a brick (375 rounds at approx $20) as soon as I can find some

Well, it is black, but it don't look bad, Been thinking of one of them black rifle tos, had my G22 Walther years ago and that left a lot to be desired in accuracy. The Ruger is an awful lot of bucks for a gun that may not be that accurate, anybody have any opinions on Remington or any other?

The Remington 597 VTR seems to be a best buy with street prices in the mid $300 range. It produced the best groups, and had the best trigger. baom I think that the NRA article proved what you already found out, the 597 is a good platform. If I were in the market I would go with the 597 VTR. I hope that someone finds some of that CCI Tactical ammo. Regards

Just what is this new CCI Tactical ammo. My 597 "The Wasp" shoots well and all my other guns also shoot well with the 1050 to 1085 fps ammo with a 40 grain bullet. the harmonic just seem to match the barrel resonance. I believe I now have the guns that will get the job done, my limitations are my rest and the somewhat not totally stable shooting benches at our range.

I have not seen any of it yet. It is CCI Tactical Rimfire #0953 40gr CPRN @1175 fps ammo @ $19.95 for a 375 round pack. It gave the smallest 50 yd groups in almost all of the rifles tested. As said the best was the 597 at 0.60" with the Ruger SR22 right behind at 0.62. Not bad and worth a try if we can find some. Regards

The attraction of the fancy ladies always seems to be there.

Most of the black rifle .22's are the manufacturer's semi auto with a tactical stock. Back when I was converting my 10/22 to a target rifle, I could have purchased the conversion to tactical for about $100. If you want a 10/22 with a light weight, pistol grip, adjustable butt plate stock it is a way to get that.

They do make conversion kits for AR's and I know a number of folks going that route. I've even heard one that was a .22 conversion on a full auto action.

I couldn't find a description of the ammo on the CCI website but I guess you can get it from Cabela.

The concept of a "tactical" .22 pretty much eludes me too, but I'm well known as a reactionary old fart anyway.

I'm happy with my existing 10/22 in that I like the light weight TacSol barrel and the fit of the B&C stock. I always shoot it with the suppressor attached so I don't have to wear muffs. It is very accurate and will shoot under 1/2" at 50 yds so, I don't need to replace it. As to some who don't "get" the Tactical 22 rifles coming to the market by Ruger,Remington,Sig, ATI, Mossberg, Colt, S&W, etc I say that is where the market is or they wouldn't be all building them. My guess is that most of us aren't the prospective market, and it is aimed at a younger shooter who loves the AR 15 and want a rifle that looks like one and shoots cheaper ammo. As to CCI calling their new ammo "Tactical" they must have been doing the same market research At $20 for 375 Rds if I see some I'll try it as it did in fact shoot the best 50 yd groups in most of the rifles tested. Don't know if you want to shoot that with the suppressor, it is supersonic and you will hear the craaaaack. CCI Blazer at about 20 bucks or so for 500, is a good deal and shoot adequately in most of my guns.
