Rollover Picture test

Post by Bullseye » Wed Jul 11, 2007 1:39 pm

Hey Guys,

I was playing with my image software and came up with this idea to help people identify parts in their pistols. Check out these web photo pages. They are pictures of a Mark III pistol with rollover text boxes built in to the photos to help with parts identifications. Just move your cursor over the photo and the text should pop-up in a little window when the little hand icon appears.

Looking for feedback, let me know what you think about this idea.

Thanks,

Bullseye

Looks like a great method of helping our question/response dialogs to
refer to the same part(s).

probably need one for: rim, case, neck, bullet, hollow-pt, cartridge...

Those are the same photos that I've used in other applications, all I did this time was map out the images and add in description text tags.

Well, I guess that's just pretty cool! Any chance you might do one for a 1911?

I hadn't considered the 1911 pistol as having a need for a rollover parts ID chart. Is the 1911 really that big of a mystery? I know that there's many people who do not understand the innards of the Ruger so this was what I came up with to help. I can do one of a 1911 if this is something that is necessary. It really doesn't take that long to create this learning aid.

I had a thought about how much better it would be to be able to locate parts from a photograph instead of trying to mentally reconstruct an exploded parts diagram. For me, navigating a EV diagram is no big deal but not everyone has these types of conceptual skills. I hear of many frustrated owners struggling over their keyboards attempting to gather enough understanding on the Net to reassemble a pile of parts that used to be their brand new pistol.

I'm open to suggestions for diagrams of other models.

Very nicely done. It even works on my 7 year old Mac portable.

Cool, works very well. Have you thought about going one level deeper, to show sear spring direction and sear assembly etc.? I know that you already have the pics, was just wondering it these would maybe be useable as interactive replacements for the pictures on your teardown pages.

I really like that effect. It might be a good addition to your detailed and field strip prodedures.

Which software are you using. I've got tons of old pictures and naming folks in the pictures would be a good effect.

I used Adobe Image Ready but the newer versions of Photoshop should be capable of making the hot zones for the text.
