Using factory Mark III sear and VQ Mark II hammer

I currently have a VQ Mark II hammer and sear in my Mark III. Would I be okay using the VQ hammer with a factory sear? How would the contact angles match up?

Reason, I have one of the odd VQ sears that will let you put the safety on with the gun not cocked. Ruger sear won't do that. And, I think the trigger is a bit light, even though I've kept all Ruger springs rather than VQ.

I got into the whole VQ kit and bushing thing just to let the mags fall out, and get slop out of the trigger. Pull weight is nor critical to me. I'm a plinker, not a match shooter.

Should not be a problem as long as the edges is not rounded.

why do you want to put on the safety when the gun is not cocked, a little overkill?

The factory sear won't let you put the safety on, if the pistol isn't cocked. So then you know it's not cocked. With my VQ sear, the only way to be certain is pulling the trigger. That's okay, but having a "cocked hammer indicator" is better.

I've done the VQ sear with the Ruger hammer in several MK's. That works fine, so it should work in reverse.

I haven't thought much about the safeties on my Marks. I don't use them. The pistols are either loaded and in use or cleared. I suppose I ought to start using them more often.

about the same with me, only use the safety on the 1911 whqen I carry it

Will work just fine. Just be sure to do a safety test after installation. Set the safety on, squeeze the trigger, then switch the safety to off. The hammer should not fall when the safety switch is moved in either direction. If it does, you have an engagement angle issue.

Thanks, everyone. It sounds worth some disassembly. With cold weather setting in, I've gotten lazy. At some point before spring, I'll do a detail strip and compare hammers, and probably put the factory sear back in.

IIRC, when I put the kit in, I did compare the VQ hammer and sear to the factory parts. There was no visible difference in the hammer engagements, but the in the sears there was.The VQ sear tip angled toward the hammer. The Ruger sear seemed to angle away at the tip, and the contact surface was longer.
