Ruger 22/45 grips

Post by Clem » Tue Jan 23, 2007 9:47 pm

I have seen photos of what appears to be 22/45s with wood 1911 grips. Is this for real and if so, how is it done?

The pictures are true but the grip installation is a custom job. The pistol's owners have ground off the plastic molded grips and installed 1911 style grip bushings with epoxy. Then they install modified wooden grip panels onto the frame with regular 1911 grip screws. This is an involved job that is not for the squeemish owner, one slip with a grinder and permanent damage will result.
