I was thinking about a new red dot. I just have a cheap BSA on my mkiii hunter. I seen where some like the Ultradot and others the Mueller.

I prefer Ultradots. The UD 30mm would be a fine choice.

I had never shot a pistol with any kind of red dot until a few months back. A good friend recommended a Tru-Glo 30mm for my .22. So I went one better and got the 40mm one. I really like that scope.

Then Mr Blue68F100 said to give a Mueller Quick Shot a try. I took his advice and got one. I am glad I did as I really like it too.

What I am trying to say is you don't have to sell one of your kids to get a good red dot for your .22. Pick out one in the middle price range and you should be good to go. Good luck. :)

Whats the+ - of the mueller quick shot and a tube red dot?

The main advantage to a holographic sights like the Quick Shot is that you have a larger field of view. The disadvantage to holographic sights like the Quick Shot is they tend to have a bit more parallax problems than the regular tube red dots.

In general, if you want to do a lot of quick short distance shooting, a holographic sight like the Quick Shot is going to be superior. However, if you are wanting to do longer range target shooting, the tube style red dot is going to be best.

I like my QS and would do it again if I had to.

Georgezilla, covered the pros and cons pretty good. For the best accuracy you want to have the smallest dot possible.

I'm old-fashioned, I guess. I like a regular scope on a rifle, and I prefer open sights on handguns. I'm perfectly happy with the factory sights on my Mark III.

I'm just a recreational shooter. If I shot in competition, or my eyes get much older, maybe I'll upgrade to a scope.

I installed a fiber optic front sight on one of my pistols. The idea was not to improve sighting, so to speak, but to allow my eye to pick up the front sight quicker. I have another Ruger with an Ultra dot on it, and it works well too. The rest of them have factory iron sights. Variety is the spice of life...lol

I use a 25mm Ultradot, and am very happy with it. I use the gun for shooting Bullseye. The Ultradot's are not cheap, so if you are mostly doing recreational shooting a cheaper red dot might be fine. If the price of the Ultradot is ok for you then I highly recommend one. What I like about the Ultradot is that it is low profile, and light. They also come with a lifetime warranty. If you decide to get one Larry's Guns has good prices.

I have MatchDots on both of my Marks. I like the ability to change the MOA size. I'm extremely pleased with them.

I am with you 100% on that Mr. Blue. For the money and the matches I shoot in it's the cats meow. I am just to old and slow for steel shooting.

Would the quick shot be better a shooting spinner targets at 50-75' than a ultradot?

In general yes due to more field of view. People use both without issues, the tube type is a little slower but as you get use to them your speed increases. The first time you shoot with a reflex dot you want to look for it which is not what you want to do. You want to look at the target and bring the dot into view. If you concentrate on the dot you will get eye strain. With most Reflex Dot sights you can change the size of the dot. Larger the dot the faster you can get on target, easier to see. If you have astigmatism problem that is not corrected the dot will look like it has a tale or legs. For me with aging eyes, it makes shooting fun again.

I use a J-Point red dot on a couple of my pistols and a Burris FastFire on another pistol and a Henry lever. They serve the old eyes pretty well along with being small and light weight.
Both Mfgrs. have mounts that fit a lot of different dovetails.

Anybody have any aftermarket iron sights? I know Volquartsen, Millet, and a few others make them. Ruger's used to be made for them by Micro, but I don't think Micro makes any these days for Mark pistols, or Ruger wheelguns, either.

Ruger's current sights could use finer clicks for competition, but work fine for my shooting needs.
