I purchased some Federal Spitfire 22lr ammo the other day (shown in the photo included). Not having extensive knowledge of the subject I thought all 22lr ammo was pretty much the same in terms of length. I know there are hollow points, different grain sizes, and different jackets, I just figured the length had to be the same. I really never considered it an issue. I'm not trying to create an opportunity for jokes, but in this case, size does matter, for my 22lr guns anyways. The Spitfire won't feed consistantly , and jams continually, compared to the Winchester which shoots flawlessly. It keeps getting caught up on the hollow point (as viewed in photo). Granted the Winchester is a coated LRN, not a hollow point, but I have shot "hollow points" from Winchester w/o any problems. Check out the length comparison of both bullets that are on their sides, and also the two Federal HN's: One is brand new, the other has jammed on the hollow point.
Anybody else have similar issues?

Were the other hollow points you shot well 36 grain bullets? Those Spitfires are 31 grain bullets. That shape and weight may not feed reliably in your pistol.

They were the 22 Long Rifle
40 gr. Super-X® Power Point® - Lead Hollow Point

This is a much larger bullet then the Spitfire 31 gr. My Ruger hasn't had any probs with anything else. Even my Ruger 10/22lr rifle won't feed them.

Looks like you should save them for a 22 bolt rifle or a revolver.

You need one of those to shoot up ammo that won't feed.

Be careful with the Single Six. They can be dangerous-to you bank account. I bought one and it led to a Blackhawk .357 which led to a Blackhawk .45 colt.

Single action brass is too hard to throw away, it just frops right into your had and you just can't let it go.

Yea, I can see how that could happen, now I have to buy a Ruger 22lr SA just to use up the ammo! Darn it.

Well, I WAS under the misguided impression that when a member came to us for advice it would be given with professionally sound answers with no malicious undertones. First a new member wanted our assistance in NOT acquiring a Browning Medalist. He is now on his way to lay his money down. Now we have Hak who has an ammunition problem, and leaves with several of our group suggesting the rather expensive solution of a new revolver

Now, the fact that I lust for both a Medelist and a Single Six is besides the point. Regards

You always need another gun, it is just a fact of life. Quit saving all your stuff for your old age, I am using all mine at the present time. Was looking for pistols for Hakaman at my local shop and had to take
Henry home with me. You never know how old you will get so use it before you lose it. Bear just came over and woofed me up because his water bowl was empty, give the dog a treat.

Apology accepted and noted, was going to buy one sooner or later, so it just happened sooner. That was the first one they had since last fall and a long as it looked good it was given a loving home. Nothing planned for the near future, just shooting and enjoying them,.

I checked with the gun doctor and he told me to take 3 anecdotes and call him in the morning.
