.17 mach 2

Post by rimwonder » Thu Mar 02, 2006 1:15 pm

first off I know this part of forum is only for .22 but I wanted to put .17 since it is also rimfire.
Now, has anyone had a chance shooting any .17 gun?(handgun) It look like the .17 HM2 really took off in 2004 then some of the gun maker really back out on making 17 HM2's handguns. Far as I know only two company make pistol. That is Kimber and Volquartsen. :!: :?: Ruger was going to make one and back right out of the game.
I wonder why?
Why should I get a 22 over a 17?
Right now I am very mix up in the head
Thanks for your help

First this is a rimfire forum and it isn't exclusive to 22's. .17's definitely qualify for discussion here in this forum.

Ruger backed out of producing the .17 HMR autoloader due to the extreme recoil from this cartridge and the inability to function in a strictly recoil operated blowback breech assembly. There are some good .17 HMR revolvers out there, Taurus is one maker that comes to mind.

Your caliber choice should depend on the uses you have for that pistol.

My choice is base on two things. One, my wife wants low recoil gun. Two I want tight grouping.
I am thinking that its best to get a good old 22. The 17 I believe is still too new and has not really got a lot of good news but how tight the grouping is.
 HAS anyone had the chance to toy with the 17?

I have no idea which of the 22 handgun. :!:

Interesting link. That Excel handgun looks like a cross between a S&W Model 41 and a Browning Buckmark. I'll bet that .17 HMR is one popping handgun. I'd be interested to hear a review if anyone buys one of these.

It does! :!:

They made it for the 22WMR.

Then you got to pay for the .17 HMR conversion barrel.

I'm interested to hear any review on the .17 handguns.
