Post by Hakaman » Sun Apr 03, 2011 10:27 am

I have been thinking of buying a 22 mag revolver, any suggestions on make and model ?
This seems to be a good deal:

You got pros and cons there. The Taurus is nine shot, adjustable sights, and less expensive. It's also not a Ruger, Taurus quality and customer service is iffy.

The Ruger will also shoot .22LR, and has a nice setup for scope use, besides the adjustable sights. Plus the usual Ruger quality and CS. On the negative, it's six shot, more pricey and likely a bit heavier.

I would think in grips and holsters the Ruger would have the advantage.

You knew all this already. You just have to sort out which gun fits the bill best for you!
* 2 Ruger Bearcat stainless, w/ EWK ejector housings & Wolff springs
* Ruger SP-101 .22LR, w/ Wolff springs
* 2 NAA Guardian .32ACP
* 3 Zastava M70 .32ACP
* S&W 15-22 Sport (.22LR AR)
* 2 Ruger SR22 .22LR pistols

The only Taurus I ever owned left a bad taste in my mouth, so I'm unabashedly biased on that topic.

That Ruger is GORGEOUS! But then, the price is completely insane too. Wonder what the street price is on that? It'd have to get south of $600 for me to even consider it.

I'm pretty old-fashioned and just can't wrap my head around 9 and 10 shot revolvers. Revolvers are supposed to have 6 rounds, it's like a Law of Nature :lol:
An empty weapon is just a very expensive hammer.

The Ruger is a great revolver, solid, and classy looking. I own a Ruger BH 45
Convertable (pictured below), it really only has one negative about it, the grip
is a little small for my larger sized hand. I think it was marketed for cowboy shooters
who want a quick drawing SA revolver. I assume the Ruger Single Six has the same grip size ?

All the newer Single-Sixes, post-2003, except the stainless models, have the lock under the grips. I understand the grips are a little smaller. The stainless ones still have the XR3-RED frame, which goes back to, I think, the early seventies.

Yep, grip panels are interchangeable. Wonder if the hogue monogrips.

I'd prefer the Single Six because you can shoot both .22lr and .22 wmr.

Bought my first single six 30 yrs. ago, 91/2" barrel and both cylinders, love that gun. Best part, $100. Can't beat the old three screws.
