New guns in different times

Have you ever thought about putting modern guns in a different time frame?

Imagine a platoon of modern Marines going back to 1778 and taking on a British regiment. Or a Confederate regiment in 1863. Or if you went back to hand Bill Hickock or Wyatt Earp a Super Blackhawk?

Bigger guns? Send Patton a division of M1 Abrams tanks. I'll bet the first words out of his mouth would be unprintable here.......I'll bet the Germans would do some cursing, too.........

An interesting and related thought exercise cropped up on GRM a while back.

Imagine you are transported to the American Revolution (or Civil war, or any conflict of the past with outdated weaponry)
And imagine you land in the right spot, with 25 armed militia-men.

How "primitive" can their weapons be to become a decisive force in the conflict?
Modern muzzle-loader?
Off-the-rack cheapo WalMart carbine 10/22 rifles?
Henry leverguns in .22lr? .22wmr? .357mag?
Mag-fed rimfire bolt gun?
Modern 9mm pistol? .22lr?

Think on it, assuming you don't know enough history to be a "pop-up assassin" and change the people or pick specific battles.

I'm of the opinion that a batch of modern muzzle-loaders would make a difference in the Revolution, but it might take a repeater (Henry!) and new tactics to make major changes in the Civil War (The real Henry did exist, it was just rare and expensive)

Or how about a helo gunship that comes in over the tree tops during the Civil War? Now that might have caused a bit of concern.
