9mm ammo

FWIW, I have been buying 9mm Federal Champion ammo at WM's for $9.97/box. Others have reported a $1.00 less in some areas?

I just scored some at about that price here in Ohio, snagged some .45 and .223 for cheap while I was at it, all Federal.

Normally I'm a big fan of WWB, but the price was right and I do have hungry chambers to feed. It has a warning to not use it on ported guns, I think because it is plated copper instead of the more solid copper layer most hardball ammo has ... but I don't care so long as it goes bang and sends the lead all to the same place roughly where I want.

I haven't looked at commercial ammo except for .380 in a while. If it is beginning to be available and at reasonable prices, maybe I'll look at some.

I bought some Winchester target in 40 S&W and some 9mm in the 100 round bulk packs from Wally's a few weeks back. I can't say that I see more ammo sitting on the shelf but it does seem to be arriving to the stores in regular time intervals.

I scored some Federal small pistol primers at a pretty good price, so I bought a case of 5K. That should keep me satisfied for 9mm for a while. I don't shoot it much, as I prefer the .45 ACP, but shooting is shooting.

I buy 500 9mm bullets at a time and roll my own for the G-19 I have. That's about all I shoot it in a year. I prefer my old .30 or .40 caliber guns.

Maybe the ported gun need more power to cycle the action, as there are claims that this ammo isn't as powerful of charge as some 9mm. I've shot some thru my glock and m&p w/o issues. Seems like normal 9mm to me?

Reading these post make me think of about a year or year and a half ago, ammo prices were double and triple what they are now. And I'm not saying I'm a big Obama fan but I think the ammo sellers were taking advantage of a blown out of proportion situation. I've been known to walk out of a store over a dollar and I think sometimes its OK to tell these overpriced sellers about the man down the street who's selling his ammo for a better price.

And to think I'm happy that Gander had 100 rounds of .22 LR Mini-Mag on sale for $5.99 this week. That's still 6 cents a round, which is kinda pricey for me! I keep some stock of Mini-Mags for CCW. The cheap 3-4 cent stuff is for everything else.

I can remember 9mm, .357, being like $7-8 a box for JHP; and fifty .22 HP being 69 cents. At twenty, thirty cents a shot I'd have to leave the range before my car even cooled down........

I always do at least 300 rounds on a range trip. All .22, that's about nine bucks. Centerfire it would be sixty dollars and up. Whew..........

From what people say, ammo has gone up over the years.
When the dems get in office, people panic and hoard.
That is really counter-productive/intuitive if you stop and think about it.
Shooters, themselves, cause the prices to sky rocket by panicking.
Gun shows gouge shooters, especially, I've seen .380 ammo $80/100rds at "Gouge shows". Oh well.
One the other side of the coin, so to speak, I do remember gasoline priced at 19 cents/gal !!!
Who can remember other product prices of 50 years ago ??? If so, let us know what it is.

I can remember gas being 55 cents, or a quarter during "gas wars". I can remember the cheaper new cars being less than two grand. The '78 Trans-Am in "Smokey and the Bandit" was less than five grand, Cadiilacs then were about seven!

My first Ruger Security-Six, stainless 4 inch, was $310 new. I gave about $65 for my first 10/22.

But, in perspective, minmum wage used to be $2.10. I can remember when making $200 a week was considered "good money".

I remember gasoline going for $0.15/gal in the early 70's. When the gas wars got going it would dip down to $0.12 range. R-12 16oz cans were selling for $0.77.

The WM in this area seam to be getting a steady supply of ammo. I picked up a brick of Fed Lightning's 510's earlier this week for $17.70. Makes it cheaper than the Fed AutoMatch, but not the Fed 550's but pretty close.

I'm not old enough to remember any of those things. I can't even remember that SWMBO's favorite steak knives came from buying Shell gasoline.

I remember how Shell gave out steak knive, and drinking glasses too. I remember my mom collecting/saving S&H Green Stamps religiouly, we were always trying to make ends meet. I used to love watching them churn out of the machine at the grocery store.
