Fun gun
I recently acquired an M1 Carbine and what a fun little rifle to shoot. What made it even more fun was learning about the history behind these world war II guns. Who would have thought that the US produced 6.2 million of them in the course of just 3 years.
Re: Fun gun
I don't find it hard to understand with eight different major manufacturers turning out M-1 carbine rifles in an all-out, 24/7, war production effort. Folks back then had a whole different national pride value system than their progeny do today. Many companies turned from producing comfort products to war related items in a very short turn-around time often requiring retooling of an entire production line, not to mention retraining an entire engineering staff to designing military standard equipment. One reason this nation was so strong around the world was due to the steadfast beliefs those folks had back then, sadly most are now gone and thus we have our weak system of government which is teetering on the edge of socialism.

I have to agree with you completely Bullseye. These days it seems people are more interested in what an elected official can do for them personally, than what is best for our nation as a whole. As a child, I remember well the no nonsense attitudes of my parents when it came to patriotism. When the National Anthem was being sang, we had best be standing at attention, hat in one hand, and the other over our hearts. Thanks for your well written comments.

Re: Fun gun
now we have elected officials refusing to stand for the pledge and immigrants living here for damn near free doing the same thing, this country is going to Hell rapidly . Sure glad to be and old man as I may not have to see it go totally to Hell.
I was a week short of my 9th birthday and I can remember hearing FDR on that fateful Sunday announcing that the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor.
Just about 5 blocks from my present home they built carbine by the carload, they are the ones stamped SSG.

I'm beginning to feel the same as you Bear and old man.

I like the line,
"If you get it and didn't work for it, someone else worked for it and didn't get it".
Most of the population is now just "Me, me" and doesn't give a rat's rear about others. If people in WW2 were like they are now, we'd have lost in a year.

Re: Fun gun
I used to teach that there is no "I" in the word TEAM. But these young folks have the come-back of, "Yes, that's true but there is a 'ME'!"
Sheesh!

It's pretty bad these days and I'm pretty sure it's only going to get worse.

Re: Fun gun
They claim that there is no "I" in "Team" - but I know better:
Re: Fun gun
But aren't they always hidden there? There's always one in every team it seems.

My M1 carbine is an inland, I love shooting it. Plus we have to have some mitten state pride with it.bearandoldman wrote:now we have elected officials refusing to stand for the pledge and immigrants living here for damn near free doing the same thing, this country is going to Hell rapidly .
