Well Scott, it sounds like you have a pretty nice hog leg now. I have never personally owned a Magna Ported firearm, but I understand that it does help reduce muzzle rise at the cost of more noise directed back towards the shooter. Either way you decide to go, I'm sure you're going to enjoy that gun...

Well, it's done. I drilled and tapped the opposite side of the sight 6-32 and installed it back on the Ruger with a hex socket set screw. Not pretty, but functional.

Good looking weapon. Have you used an Ultra dot before? When I first purchased mine, the dancing dot drove me crazy but once I got used to it, well, it's real nice.

Good luck

Blue, I just looked at my wife's MK III ss target and it has a slotted screw as well. I finally gave up on trying to remove the set screw and drilled a hole on the opposite side of the sight. I'm going to tap it for another set screw as soon as I determine what thread the original hole was tapped. T...

Well now the plot thickens

Thanks for the advice from all. Here is what has transpired. I tried heating the area once again and managed to get the screw to wiggle a little more, back and forth. I then left it soaking in WD-40 over night. Dried it off this more and began working it out, by the wiggle it back and forth method. ...

MK II rear sight is loose in the dovetail

I discovered that the rear sight on my MK II Target model had come loose and was sliding back and forth in the dovetail. I tried tightening the hold down screw but I couldn't get it to turn more than a few degrees clockwise and only back to its original position counterclock wise. I removed the sigh...

maybe

Blue, Sorry about the delay in replying. First I want to thank you for taking the time to answer my post. I have completely disassembled the gun, with the exception of the mag release. As you might imagine it was quite caked with carbon and other gunk. The plunger that pushes up on the disconnector ...

MK II malfunction

Took the ole MK II target model to the range today and loaded up a magazine, inserted it in the gun, and tried to pull the trigger. The trigger did move to the rear but then stopped and the firearm failed to discharge. I let up on the trigger and tried pulling it again and it fired this time. Strang...

That's pretty much what I expected to hear Bullseye. It just didn't make sense to me that such a small number of rounds would cause significant wear and tear on a firearm with Smith's reputation.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
